Question Carousel of Progress Rehab

Has anyone heard anything about Carousel of Progress? I love this attraction and heard recently that a rehab is in discussion or in plans. It is in major need especially the last scene. I have not heard anything official but I was just curious if anyone has heard this rumor. Hope its true!

I have heard of a rumor that they might refurb it for WDW's 40th anniversary but I haven't heard anything official.

I haven't heard anything, but I think its gonna be a while before they do a rehab. With Space mountain now closed, TTA on a limited schedule, and construction for the new Stitch show, I think WDW would be cutting back on too many things in Tomorrowland.
Perhaps when Space Mountain is complete...

But still, I don't think the ride is popular enough to warrant a whole refurb. I personally love the ride, but there never is a que.
An update would be nice, but I do like the nostalga of the current version.

I have seen that show in different versions since 1975. I enjoy seeing how the "future" becomes the "present" or "past". I hope they will refurb again, but agree that it may be a few years to take that step.

I would think that this would make a refurb more likely, not less. Most of the recent refurbs that I can remember were made to attractions that were not nearly as popular as they once had been. I know that the Haunted Mansion, for example, was practically a walk-on attraction, at least in the off season, for several years before the most recent refurb. Ditto for Spaceship Earth.

Anyway, it just makes sense based on the fact that low popularity means that closing it for a while is less of a disruption, and it also means that you have an incentive to try to boost interest. And one of the most reliable ways to boost interest in a ride that people seem to have grown bored with is to close it for a while.

This is one of those rumors I've been hearing for years and haven't seen anything but a short "fixer upper" happen. The last scene is definitely in need of an update. It's still very much "the future from the 90s". Everything in it has no only been done but it's been improved 100 fold. I'd love to see it but I unfortunately see Disney continuing to put their funds into the attractions that get a bigger attendance.

That'd be great, but I really hope they don't add any disney characters, and keep the integrity and meaning of the ride. Also, Wouldn't it be hard to have a queue? There are so many seats constantly refilling like every 5 minutes.

I think i'd be OK with a referb, as long as they don't mess with Uncle Orville...

Re: Carousel of Progress Rehab

I enjoy this attraction alot. The biggest reason is: it is soooo Disney.
I also hope that if, they do refurb it, they do keep it basically the same.
Obviously, update it to current events and then the "future'. Alot of the old scenes they could just spice them up abit.
I could see WDW doing a refurb on this soon.

Re: Carousel of Progress Rehab

I was there in December of last year, and I do think CoP needs somme updates... especially to the end scene. Another thing that also REALLY bothers me is that they need to Animate the narrator's hands. The show was still VERY enjoyable, and I think it needs to stay in WDW for...ever. But it was badly amazing how much the unanimated hand took away from the realism, otherwise it would have been just about perfect.

I know the building is not really made for it, but I'd LOVE to see a post show on top of the building.... maybe the progress city ride though that we've had concept art for? or maybe a some cool (fiber optics can always look very magical) effects when you return to the entrance room...

So there's a great big beautiful tomorrow...Shining at the end of every day! There's a great big beautiful tomorrow just a dream away!

Re: Carousel of Progress Rehab

I really hope they don't update the "future" portion of the attraction. For me, this is the best part. I also loved the "future" at the end of Spaceship Earth. I was very sad when they changed it.

Re: Carousel of Progress Rehab

This has always been one of my favorites. I first saw it at the World's Fair in NY back in the 60's. The song is wonderful and I love the progression of electric through time. Amazing how technology catches up with us. Disney probably never thought that their future scene would would tomorrow so quickly. Probably a refurbishment is in store, but not for some time. I've heard rumors they might close it. I certainly hope not. It is a keeper.

I think Walt would come back and haunt them if they closed it. That would be as UN-Disney as you could get.

I think I understand what you mean, but I don't think that it would be the same as what happened to SSE. SSE got a total retheme from communication to technology... And the end of the ride changed a LOT more (For the worse imo) than the CoP's ending probably would if it was updated. It'd be nice to hear them talk a little about the last scene in the new updated scene. bridge the gap of the 90s.

Re: Carousel of Progress Rehab

One is definitely coming soon, and you may notice some little 'plussings' the attraction has received over the last year (the poster out front and the dog received a new coat of fur). I wouldn't hold my breath about anything being in the immediate future, though!
