Chef Mickey's moving?

Hello all, I want to check the credibility of a story I've heard that I insist is a rumor and a friend adamantly claims is the truth.

A friend of mine is taking an upcoming trip to Disney (lucky...) in April. We were talking about different restaurants and she mentioned Chef Mickey's. I said I loved it and she agreed. She then proceeded to tell me that it was moving out of the Contemporary. I told her that I think it may be moving within the hotel or (actually) expanding due to all of the changes on the Grand Concourse level of the hotel. We came to a stand-still, both attempting to prove ourselves right and the other wrong.

So, my question is - who's right? Is Chef Mickey's moving? If so, where and when?

Thanks

I just made our reservations for Chef Mickey's and they did not say anything about it moving. The only thing I thought was strange was Chef Mickey's was on the old reservation system, not the new one. But they said that would be changed late in June where it would be on the new system.

Didn't it relocate to the Contemporary from DTD?

Chef Mickey's is not moving - at least not any time soon (nothing is ever 100% for sure forever). The restaurant is hugely popular and would be an unnecessary expense to relocate it.

It is expanding, however, into the area that was once the Outer Rim Lounge.

Yeah but that was a different entire restaurant. It was sit-down and not buffet. If anyone wants to know where it was, just look for Rainforest Cafe. I miss that restaurant.

I too miss the Original Chef Mickey's. We made our first reservations for the move to the Contemporary, thinking it would be the same, boy were we wrong. Not a fan of most Buffets, Boma being the rare exception.

I find them all to be very much the same and don't enjoy the bouncing up and down during a meal continuously by my family. Call me silly but I enjoyed the DTD version where you ordered from a menu and the characters still came to the table. The food at the DTD was so good.

And now that my children are all but grown, I'm alright skipping character meals, I've done enough for a lifetime.

Re: Chef Mickey's moving?

I'm all over the rumors, and this one I've never heard of.

Stuff was reorganized at the CR to accommodate expanding Chef Mickey, like closing the Concourse Steakhouse, moving stuff around, etc.

They wouldn't just relocate it now.

The problem is that you can't win the argument. You're trying to prove a negative - but unless you get Iger himself to tell your friend, you have no proof. Lack of evidence is not proof.

I could say, "monsters are real". To change my belief, you need to prove they don't exist. But just because there is no evidence that they DO exist isn't enough to prove they don't.

That's what I thought - why move? You can just expand!

Thanks, everyone!

They definitely are not moving anytime soon. We were just there in December and they were still working on renovating and expanding.

I totally and completely agree. I can't stand the new Chef Mickey's, espcially the buffet. It really was way better when it was in DTD

I wanted to say the same thing, but I waited till we rode past in on the monorail to make sure that what I thought was Chef Mickey's really was exactly that.

Re: Chef Mickey's moving?

I have no inside info at all, but Disney just spent quite a bit of time (and construction dust) reworking the restaurant area in the concourse of the Contemporary. I would think that the current arrangement will be there for a while.
