New Resort at Animal Kingdom

I heard there's plans for a new resort out by Animal Kingdom!

Let's have some fun speculating what it would be. I'm guessing it will be (finally!) the Beastly Kingdom concept. Dragons, mythical beasts, Sinbad-style decor...

What do you think?

I'd be up for a Beastly Kingdom resort with some Fantasia critters.

Re: New Resort at Animal Kingdom

Any new resort would be fine with me, but instead of Beastly Kingdom I would prefer a villians themed resort or park.

Re: New Resort at Animal Kingdom

This is the first I've heard of any new resort ANYWHERE on property in a while.

But it REALLY sounds like an amalgamation of other rumors and facts...

It'd be cool if it were true but... I don't know.

Re: New Resort at Animal Kingdom

Mr. Hill at Jim Hill Media talked about a "Night Kingdom" concept with limited access, special adventure, and a super-premium price - kinda like the park at SeaWorld. I would rather see a place that normal folk like me could attend. But instead of a whole new part I would rather see more invested in the current parks.

In this economy, Night Kingdom is all but dead. Also bear in mind that Hill is known to run with less-than-factual information.

Besides, Kidani Village just opened at Animal Kingdom -- why would Disney open another resort over there?

Re: New Resort at Animal Kingdom

My source for this is actually NOT Jim Hill. The Night Kingdom thing is still in the works for "some day" but no time soon. I think the new resort is higher up on the list.

I'm not sure what Disney's reasoning is, but they are definitely feeling the need to build more rooms, not more parks. I think they are trying to put all the area resorts and hotels out of business, it's easier money than building new theme parks?

There's also the area behind Pop Century, which is definitely going to be done next, and major expansion down between Ft. Wilderness and Wilderness Lodge.

With Flamingo Crossings they are basically rolling out the carpet for 3rd party value hotel/motels...seems unlikely that they are trying to put them out of business at the same time.

Pop Century Legendary Years (under whatever name it ends up) is almost certainly going to be first on the list for when they need more value rooms. First I've heard about anything near the Wilderness areas other than the Four Seasons (which is on the opposite side of Ft. Wilderness).

Re: New Resort at Animal Kingdom

Does anyone know if the rumor is for a value, moderate, or deluxe? It makes a little sense, with the new Flamingo Crossings coming. I know that the company management is VASTLY different than the last time there was a recession/dip in the economy (which was in the mid 90's), however, there was major hotel expansion at that time.....to be determined..............

I didn't get a sense for the price range of the thing near AK. The expansion of Ft. Wilderness is reportedly some new camp sites and some more DVC units. Not sure what else?
