HEY Lou..Cancelled construction???
Hey Lou, the company I'm contracted to dropped a little bomb this afternoon on us. For about 3 months we've been gearing up moving 14 loads of Crane mats DAILY for a solid year down to Orlando. We found out today that the company was DISNEY and at the last minute pulled the plug. We were supposed to start tomorrow moving them.
Have you heard anything about this?? Must be massive construction project. If I can find out more I let u know but we really thought this was odd.,

Re: HEY Lou..Cancelled construction???
I had to look up what a crane mat was, but the only major construction known to be going on at the moment that I am aware of that might be crane-ready are the Four Seasons and Flamingo Crossings developments. The former might be big enough for a significant number of cranes (I don't know what 14 loads of mats means in terms of number of cranes), but Disney itself wouldn't be involved in pulling the plug.
If they were ready to move forward with the rumored Fantasyland rebuild that would be another possibility, but I don't know if they were even close to being ready - if its real.

Re: HEY Lou..Cancelled construction???
I called the agent again and she said it was Disney..whether it was subcontracted I don't know. ..Also it was 3 days per week to start..for a one year CONTRACT.
I hauled 2 years ago new water filtration equipment into Disney and it was direct from manufactuer to Disney. I got to see alot stuff that you don't get to see while visiting the parks and got a real good safe parking place while we were there.

Not doubting you - I'm just referring to the construction that I am aware of being at such a stage that cranes might be called in. Disney de-annexed the land for the Four Seasons and as far as I know Four Seasons owns all the construction.

Re: HEY Lou..Cancelled construction???
Oh no I didn't take it that way at all. I was just clarifying what I had followed up on with the agent and was adding the information. I do hope they start it up sometime in late October when I renew my AP (when whole family takes a week vacation down there)so I can get down there once or twice and month to hit the parks.

Can't wait to hear how this goes!

So, what was the rumored construction job... any ideas?

Re: HEY Lou..Cancelled construction???
A guess? The Pop expansion into suites. Disney seems to like to pull the plug on this one. Pop being completed is beginning to equate to the Chicago Cubs winning the World Series.
Also it could be Four Seasons. Many might still consider that property as Disney especially when logistically they are dispatching/directing that many semi's.

Re: HEY Lou..Cancelled construction???
I doubt a Fantasyland refurb would require 360 mats per week. They are each 20 foot long by 8 feet wide. Whatever it was it probably required a huge amount of clearing. Possibly including forest removal. That is a huge amount of mats.

Re: HEY Lou..Cancelled construction???
I didn't know what a crane mat was, so from this page:
What Makes Quality Crane Mats?
Here is their definition:
"Crane mats are designed to provide a foundation, a base, from which construction cranes operate. Oftentimes, when construction takes place in inhospitable landscapes that are difficult for cranes to navigate, quality crane mats are brought in so that the crane has a solid foundation to rest on. More than that, though, crane mats also allow crews to move cranes around the work areas. Some cranes don’t have wheels or any sort of self-locomotion abilities, and they need to be physically moved around. The crane mats allow the cranes to be dragged over uneven surfaces and awkward landscapes."
So it really does sound like this was supposed to be huge project.
