Allow me to be in the minority here, but I have never missed 20K Leagues. As a matter of fact, I can remember avoiding that ride as I got older. The line was always very long and way too hot. The ride vehicle was cramped, the seats were uncomfortable, and the boat always smelled. The effects were outdated even when they were new.
In many ways I felt the same about Toad... just without marine diesel...

yeh mike i see your point... but the sad thing is that they let it get that way... look at the sub voyage at Disneyland... they could have updated it and it probably could have worked....

While I agree with you, it's all academic now really. The Green Sea Monsters are long gone, approaching twenty years now.

20,000 has been long gone now and they were not going to let that just sit empty. I just hope they do away with most of the meet and greets.

Personally, I don't believe this idea that Jungle Cruise is based to any large extent on The African Queen. Have you seen The African Queen? It's a First World War film, not a jungle expeditionary tale.
All it provided for the Jungle Cruise was the stimulus to use boiler-based river boats, of the kind used around the Zambezi, the Congo and the god-forsaken Lake Tanganyika. At the time, WED was struggling to find an appropriate form of conveyance, and Goff thought of using the boats because of the film; he was renowned for loving what followed in the wake of the Industrial Revolution. The set-pieces for the ride, before Marc Davis' additions, have their origins in the True Life Adventure series. There was a reason "Adventureland" (with Jungle as its anchor attraction) was the final evolution of the planned "True Life Adventureland".
I didn't see colonial German squaddies the last time I went round the jungle...

"Based on" is a bit strong. "Inspired by" is more appropriate, from a design standpoint of the boats, etc. but not necessarily the content.
