LOL very true, or Aladins magic carpet ride out of the cave. That is one scene that I always thought should be a roller coaster ride. Monsters Inc.'s door scene is another one.

Strong confirmations all over the place about the Snow White/Dwarfs coaster as well as something happening with the Skyway building.

Very interested to see the next set of drawings for the new Fantasyland.

And for my completely uninformed two cents - I really don't think any of this is a reaction to Harry Potter

i think it is a reaction to HP... they have this plane for Fantasyland that would include all of these meet and greets... and that would be great... for little kids... how long does that last... then they get to the point where there is no substance in Fantasyland... only characters... it looks good but there is nothing to do... adding something like this mine car attraction would be a step in the right direction because not only does it give fantasyland another attraction... but it is something everyone could go on... the original Fantasyland concept is being changed because Disney realizes the concept was to "little girl" driven... boys would have absolutely no desire to go there... i think that and HP's popularity as a gender equal area is making Disney rethink a lot...!

    Re: Seven Dwarves Mine coaster....

I've seen a modified version of the "leaked" plans, that have rearranged the FL expansion around, but I have my doubts as to the authenticity of it. It looks more like someone used photoshop to erase certain areas, then recreated the font to put in the new things with no detail.

It included the Snow White Mine Ride smack in the middle of everything, Dueling Dumbos relocated to south of Barnstormer (like with the model and artists renditions that came out after the leaked plan), and Toontown being listed a "More Dumbo?" and a huge area marked "Casey Jr. Food and Merchandise" or something similar. It also left Pooh's Playful Spot intact, when they've already ripped the tree out and moved it next to the attraction.

A lot of the rumblings I'm hearing regarding the Snow White ride is that it may be a hybrid coaster/dark ride.

But a high probability at this point is that Toontown may remain mostly unchanged physically (particularly with the "tents"), but just rethemed.

    Re: Seven Dwarves Mine coaster....

I really don't think that the FLE was designed as a Potter killer or even a sparring partner for the WWoHP. The Magic Kingdom's attendance was never going to suffer because of Harry; when people think of going to Disney World, they think of MK first and foremost-it has the castle (except for us geeks who have our own favorite things that we do at WDW). I think the FLE was for 2 things; 1, increase capacity in that section of the park and 2) after seeing pictures of the other park's Fantasyland, WDW's was probably the ugliest of all of them and that really needed a change.

The WWoHP is going to hurt Disney but not at MK. I think it will hurt AK and DHS, especially AK since there are so few attractions (only 7 by my count if you count the train and the planet watch petting zoo section seperately...I was being generous). I know they say the purpose of AK is to slow down and explore the trails and that's fine. I just don't feel like slowing down and exploring at an $85 a day theme park; I can do that at my local zoo for $10 a visit or a $75 annual pass. Our touring plan for AK takes us from rope drop to just after lunch and then we're done and off to something else. They need to FIX THE YETI and other effects at EE and then start to develop something else with actual attractions be it the (rumored) Beastly Kingdom area, Australia, South America, or even Antarctica (just wishful thinking for summer visits ) to really start to duel with Harry.

There are so many different things Disney should be doing other than adding on to FL. MGM, EPCOT, and AK are all in desperate need of something new and exciting. They all only have about 2 rides that can get the general public excited. A Seven Dwarf mine cart ride sounds like it would be cool. They would probably use the same concept they were going to use for the mine cart ride they wanted to do in Dinoland USA. The problem I would have with this though is they would probably get rid of the current Snow White ride that I do enjoy. If they brought back Mr. Toad in its replacement I would be all for it though.

I know a lot of WDW fans are getting sick of Pixar taking over attractions and I think Disney was on the right track to make a section at MGM for Pixar. Pixar Place I believe should be the focal point of construction. MGM needs the attention and Pixar will create a much bigger draw than Snow White and Ariel. Toy Story 3 is now the highest grossing animated film making over a billion dollars worldwide. So I guess what I am saying is, they should have put all this effort they are putting into Fantasyland into Pixar Place instead.

well... MGM is getting Star Tours 2 next year so that is a positive... and the rumor of the Backlot Tour going is always swirling... that would give them the space to make a Monsters inc. type coaster... that would almost certainly be a pixar attraction... as for AK... man i dunno... and Epcot might still be a few years from anything significant happening... maybe when they find a replacement for EO they might shut the enire Imagination pavilion down and refurb Journey... who knows...

They won't do it, but I've always felt that Pixar could one day become the fifth gate. Take Pixar Place and just go full-blown. Seas with Nemo and Friends in Epcot becomes Seas with Ariel and Friends and move the Nemo ride over. Take that god-awful stage show in Animal Kingdom and move it, too. Lots of meet 'n greet areas, plenty of new stage shows to be developed, etc. As long as Disney can retain intellectual rights over the films in case Disney and Pixar ever split, then the land could survive. Just a matter of creating a new name at that point, a la MGM.

this is a possibility and an idea that could work... but... while i think that is a good idea i fear John Lasseter has flooded WDW with so much pixar lately... i.e. TSM... The seas with Nemo... Laugh Floor... Nemo musical... Tough to be a Bug...etc... i think it would take quite a bit away from the current parks... if TSM left MGM it might be catastrophic... and something tells me there may soon be a fifth gate in the works... just a hunch i have... Disney will have an answer to HP... and it isnt the Fantasyland Expansion...

I'm not sure there could ever be direct "proof". At best, you could say that Universal's increase attendance vs. some corresponding decrease in attendance at WDW might be related, but given that WDW attendance is greater than Universal, AND that some pecentage of guests visit both, I think it would be very hard to see any specific changes and say, "There, that's it!"

As an aside, I was at WWOHP last Monday night, for a private event, while the park was closed. I was able to take a close look at everything as I wasn't fighting a crowd. The detail levels are amazing - they did a great job. It's just too small. And I think it was great at night - I really got the sense that I was in Hogsmeade - although I think they could have illuminated the coasters in some fashion.

    Re: Seven Dwarves Mine coaster....

    Some points -

The Wizarding World is small because Universal does not have the "blessing of size" that "Reedy Creek" offers. USF had a very limited stake at the beginning, and the land that there is now represents the total of their acquisition. Thus, they can not expand out but must instead replace attractions at a comparatively alarming rate. For instance, Kongfrontation - Universal's answer to Mansion or Pirates as a crowning jewel - went for Mummy instead of the Mummy being built on additional land. Ditto for Back To The Future into The Simpsons. They will continue having to act like this because it is the only course of action readily available to them.

It is because of this land handicap that you have the Wizarding World (which could very easily constitute a park in its own right) squeezed into a staggeringly small parcel of land between Lost Continent and Jurassic Park.

Secondly, I am glad that Disney appear to be altering their Fantasyland concepts. Had the intended expansion gone ahead, Fantasyland - which used to be relatively balanced with both gender neutral and more boyish/girlish attractions - would have been surrendered to little girls for years to come. Like Optimus, I would prefer there to be a larger E-ticket than several smaller attractions, especially given the fact that Fantasyland has been minus its major E-ticket for just over sixteen years now.

Finally, the attitude of "Potter is no concern of ours" is a very dangerous one indeed if it was to be carried out at management level. It is because of such a pompous and self-assured state of mind that Disney lost the thrill seekers to Islands of Adventure for the forseeable future.

Disney made its name by staying ahead of the curve and being on the very outer fringes of technological achievement. It is not time to rest on laurels and enjoy higher attendance based on past glories and a cemented reputation. Such things are ephemeral, and thus the parks have to be open NOT ONLY to new attractions, but also to new ideas being generated by their competitors. It is in such cases, with a business on their toes, that the consumer always wins.
