More rooms does not necessarily mean more people, as there are still a lot of off-site people that Disney wants.
But, if they can fill those rooms, perhaps a 5th gate can't be far behind...eventually they are going to reach capacity across the parks.

While I would like to see them do something with the empty space, I don't know if they would put another resort so close to a huge campground and another resort. That seems a little close in proximity. If they were going to put another resort on Bay Lake, wouldn't it make more sense to go on the other side of Fort Wilderness??? As far as I can remember, there is nothing on that far side and would be away from each resort.
This is just my opinion and I am not an imagineer, so I am probably wrong!!
We will be staying at Wilderness Lodge for 9 nights mid-october, so I will let you all know if we see any activity over in that area.

Maybe these people can see the future and they know that the economy is coming back within 2 to 3 years (heres hopeing). I am waiting for plans to be revealed for a ne w park, not another resort.

optimus... what i meant by a means to an end is... they might believe that a 5th gate will work... but they want another resort to accommodate a 5th gate 1st... that might explain the Art of Animation resort as well... because remember another gate will add 60,000+ people in the parks per day avg... they will need to stay somewhere... and we all know Disney wants them to stay on property...

This is actually where I don't think the numbers work well.
Will a 5th gate actually add 60k people on top of the daily numbers they have now? Or will it dilute those that they already have, plus a far more modest increase? Aside from the bump in repeaters and locals at the start for the "opening" period, I think it will be far closer to the latter.
However, that may still be reason enough for a 5th gate. If it starts becoming increasingly difficult for guests to get into the MK due to capacity, and the lines become impossibly long, etc. etc. then they really do need to think about dilution anyways.
But they can also achieve that by some major expansions to the parks. DHS has a lot of potential for expansion, both in land and theme. They'd just have to relocate the parking entrance. Make it bigger, throw in a couple of E-tickets, and make it more than a 1-day park.

I think an extension to the existing parks is a far more likely option.
Look at the time frame between the opening of Animal Kingdom and the Fantasyland expansion. Does anyone honestly think a fifth theme-park is remotely on the short-term radar?

Well we don't mean this is a short term idea... A 5th gate would take years to develop design and build... And doc I see your thoughts... It may dilute the other parks... But it will drive up at least a decent boost the first few years... If it's any good...

Yes, I take the point. It wouldn't be any other way of course.
But I genuinely feel Disney needs to get the existing "house" in order first before they try any further expansion.
I dont agree with a 5th gate right now... I agree with you that they might want to straighten the first 4 gates... Like AK for instance... They might want to work on some more attractions to boost attendance... EE was a start... But then they stopped...

You nailed that one right on the head. Get rid of the Chester and Hester garbage and really develop the Dino area, open Australia or South America and then the Mythical Creatures area...all with rides. My DD counted the rides at AK...there are 9 IF you count the train back to the petting zoo thing.
For the Studios, make Pixar Place AMAZING (the way only Disney can) with the rumored Monsters Inc roller coaster, the Cars attraction from DCA and several other ideas that imagineering has for the Pixar area and then, Disney would be asking Harry who?
I adore Animal Kingdom and would love to see it expanded. That was one such example I was referring to. While I feel that part of the park's beauty and appeal is in its lack of traditional attractions, it will definitely need them in the fast-approaching future. I just hope that WDI are given enough flexibility by the accountants to expand AK in the way it deserves without killing its peaceful vibe.
Currently, the largest sub-grouping of the animal kingdom is missing from the other Animal Kingdom. Hopefully WDI could consider including the oceans and their inhabitants in an expanded AK. A rather am-dram stage show concerning a make-believe but loveable clownfish inside a large soundstage doesn't count!
