It seems odd that DVC would be looking to expand at a time when exisiting resorts are not being filled.
What does everyone think of this possibility.......
Disney?s River Country to become future resort? - Orlando Business Journal
It seems odd that DVC would be looking to expand at a time when exisiting resorts are not being filled.
I'd suppose that because they have the capital, start planning now for increasing crowds as (hopefully) employment problems decline. Additionally, I can't be certain, but I think that DVC is doing okay as far as sales.
The philosophy has long been about keeping people on property. Keep them spending their money on hotels, restaurants, etc that are on property. Provide transportation solutions that keep people from needing anything that would even provide access to off property facilities. If you can get only a small portion of people that are already staying off property to stay on property, it would seem you can quickly make up the capital expenditure through dining alone.
Besides, gotta make sure the hundreds of people at the DVC booths every 150ft in the parks and resorts still have a job once BLT is sold out ;-)
I am personally ambivelant towards the DVC, but I am glad that there is at least some - albeit unconfirmed - interest in finally doing something with that abandoned ruin.
I may have to buy into that
It sounds like a good idea.
Bay lake towers was sold rather quick

When I went to Disney for the first time there was a Magic I felt. I could do anything or be anything. No feeling would ever top this......
Then I took my daughter.
They'd have to finally fix the transporation issues.
DVC's business model requires them to be continue selling, at least until they reach the point that the original contracts are up and they can resell the existing properties. So to keep selling they have to keep building. Aulani is the near term sales, but they have to be thinking of what is next, which lends credence to this rumor. But as far as I know they were only inspecting the site for the possibility of it. It may not be deemed feasible.
Periodically the check the land where the Mediterranean/Venetian Resort was to be built, hoping that the land has settled sufficiently to be buildable, but it still hasn't happened.

well... at least they might do something to that disaster that was river country... and doc your right... for DVC to be successful it needs to keep selling... so it must keep building for that to happen...

I'm very glad they are at least thinking about doing something with the area. Leaving things to just decay doesn't seem very Disney-ish (what would Walt say?). DVC seems to sell fairly quickly and booking will certainly recover in the next few years which suits the timeline very well as it will probably be more than 5 years down the road for this to really launch.

I don't know if it is decaying as much as returning to its natural state.
