The decor theme of resorts seems to be heading in this direction so I believe that this is a very conceivable idea. I would agree that Disney would probably opt for redecorating a section of an existing resort over building an entire Haunted Mansion themed resort. This would be a fun themed room to stay in.
I love the idea of a HM themed resort, but I think one themed to ToT makes more sense. Imagine a 1930's style high rise, with period bellhops and cigarette girls (selling candy and gum, of course...smoking is bad). You'd want to avoid the elevators, of course...
Or how about a resort with several buildings, each themed to a different attraction. A haunted mansion, a building shaped like a pirate ship (for POTC, obviously...though maybe with Peter Pan themed suites), a building shaped like a Tibetan temple (for EE, with a gigantic animatronic Yeti in the lobby...I just love spending Disney's money...lol).
The mind boggles...
