Haunted Mansion Type Resort

Hi ya.

I was wonderin if anyone knew about Imagineering plans for a Haunted Mansion type or Haunted Resort.

My son worked for Disney, in the early 90's and he said there were plans to build a "haunted" type of resort.

I know this is a bit in the way back machine, but if anyone could shed some light on it Id appreciate it.

I figure the plans were scrapped a long time ago.

I haven't heard of anything like that. Interesting idea though. Probably wouldn't have to worry about many kids staying there. lol!

I'd say that sounds a little too tricky for even Disney to pull off...
Even 999 "Happy Haunts" are still "Haunts" when you put the kids down at night.

I agree, the idea for that type of resort a little, far fetched, and creepy. But Im sure Imagineering has many ideas that end up in the trash can.

I love the Haunted Mansion, but am terrified of the TowerofTower.
Anyone know of something that was mentioned that you can dine in the HauntedMansion? I read a small article on that.

Does anyone know if they turn the HM at WDW into Nightmare Before Christmas for Halloween?

Nope. They generally don't do any of the overlays that they do at DLR.

About a year ago, on one of the many, many surveys that seen to allude to things Disney might be considering (and inevitably turn in to "Did you hear, Disney's is doing this! They said so!") but are mostly blue sky ideas looking for traction, Disney asked about the possibility of a few new room types similar to the pirate-themed rooms done at Caribbean Beach, and it included a Haunted Mansion-themed room.

I would love this kind of resort! If kids were scared away, that would be a bonus. If cheerleaders and south American tour groups were scared away, that would be even better.

I thought that they turned HM into a Nightmare Before Christmas for Christmas season before...not every year, but that it has been done in the past. Maybe not...that's coming from a friend who claimed he went on it and that's what it was like.

But as far as the resort idea...never heard of such a thing. It would sound like a very unique idea, and very cool to say the least. Like I said...don't know how much truth there is to that, never heard of it...it would sound like a great idea for a resort though. Maybe down the road this might come up...who knows, I think it could work well, especially since many big time HM fans would be all over it.

They don't get that specific. If I were to guess, I think some of the mansion-style buildings at POR might qualify...the DLR version is located in New Orleans Square, after all...

I think it would be a lot of fun (okay, and I kind of like the aforementioned idea about the cheerleaders and tour groups ) LOL , but I don't know that an entire resort would be cost effective (because of the family and small kids factor). If they were going to try it in just making some themed rooms, I agree that the best spot would be in the POFQ. It just seems like it would be 'right at home' in that place!
