Not really...I know theres a lot of health fanatics out there, and I give them all the credit in the world...but how many people actually associate healthy eating and living with vacation??
Apparently the health and Excercise rooms that were supposed to be implemented on the 14th floor have officially been scrapped... Disney has decided to do another type of refurb to these rooms... Anyone actually surprised by this...?

I've seen how few people are in the fitness rooms at the Disney deluxe hotels. I am not surprised. Frankly the most exercise I've witnessed is the joggers early in the morning at POR and FC. There are enough of them.
I don't need to wake up on vacation and have cardio equipment in my suite.Nor a Bamboo floor.
What does impress me is someone at Disney is going through some of these follies and re-evaluating.
Some people are like Slinkies.
They aren't really good for anything,
but they still bring a smile to my face when I push them down a flight of stairs.

Wonder what they'll do instead?
Walking the parks is plenty of exercise when you get right down to it. BEsides, the majority of people there, even if they are health-conscious, are there to relax and take time away from their hectic everyday lives.
Not terribly surprised by this. I'm sure there's plenty of people who like to go for an early morning or afternoon run...but outside of that, how much are you really going to exercise in WDW?
The market for people who would want to stay in these rooms would be extremely low. At first you get people who want to try them out, then that market runs dry fast. Good idea in the short term...but would lose profit. And in the long run would lose profit. I think that they can come up with a much better idea for those rooms.

I agree, NJ@NC. I thought it was a somewhat weird idea to begin with. Disney certainly has to follow every trend in society closely so they can change accordingly. But, this one just didn't seem like one that they needed to find World implementation for.
I always thought the All Star Music and Sports hotels were odd choices for Disney, too. Movies made perfect sense. The other two, eh, not so much. I realize that Disney owns (owned?) Hollywood Records and all, but still...
Now what they name a resort is a totally different subject. The theme doesn't really change from one value to the next what is offered in the rooms. This was going to bump the price up much like the Princess Rooms at POR and the Pirate rooms at the Caribbean. Actually it was announced at the same time, in the same press release as POR Princess Rooms.
Betting they will have a better shot at filling child themed rooms at a higher price than they would have wellness and exercised rooms. Disney World just isn't a great market for that type of suite.

The theming is what I was going for. Whether it's an ill-conceived hotel or an room, it's still out of place. A pirate or haunted mansion room? Sure, it's Disney. And they know people will foolishly pay a premium to sleep there. But a random health-themed room in a non-descript hotel? Nah.
I think it was just ill-conceived from day one... I mean really... Like everyone has already said... Who really was gonna request these rooms...? The Excercise rooms have always been empty... And no one really worries too much about excercising on vacation... Glad this was squashed...

Exactly!
But theming doesn't have anything to do what they were remodeling the rooms to be. It was the hardware that was going to plus the rooms. They were to going to be designed specifically to exercise in the privacy of your room. Equipment designed into the suite to do just that. It went beyond theming and what Disney obviously realized is their clientele will pay for theming but not hardware. The Contemporary is actually the only hotel that lacks theming. It is the black sheep, basic contemporary business style hotel, nothing more. Draw the monorail drives up the center.

I think we are all agreeing on the same things here... I think it's more a disagreement on semantics than anything else... See I viewed these as theming as well because the rooms were tailored for a very specific audience... Just like the pirate and princess rooms are... The difference would have been the added Excercise equipment... But I saw that as adding to the theme... Is it possible that people would enjoy the bamboo floors and Ober amenities that these rooms would have offered...? Maybe... But I think this "theme" in a sense was tailored to a very small audience... I mean do we really see that many people running in the morning...? And would they enjoy running in their rooms instead...? This seemed like it might have only been popular during marathon weekends... At least to me...

The health part I think they could sell, the in room exercise equipment never made much sense. After walking 14 miles and spending hours broiling in the Florida sun using an in-room elliptical trainer isn't going to be on the list of things to do. Maybe the original idea to put these rooms in the Contemporary really came from the name of the resort? That is, what kind of things can we do to show that the resort is at the front edge of trends...
Maybe they can setup bungalow rooms near the next builds of the health spas with these kind of amenities. But I just don't see enough of a demand to justify setting them up.
Walt Disney is really a good organization, I hope they also give importance to training of their makeup artists, I took my cosmetology ce from cosmetologycampus.com.
