Pirates of the Caribbean meets Caribbean Beach Resort

You could probably call me an unoffical "expert" of the Caribbean Beach
Resort (I wrote an article review on this website) and I have been staying
at the resort during almost every trip I've been on to WDW in the past 17
years.

I am sure I am probably one of the few (if any) people who is saying this...

but I don't think I like the idea of there being "Pirates of the Caribbean"
themed rooms at Caribbean Beach Resort. Let me explain.

When you stay at a Disney World resort, you get to be surrounded by an
unique theme that is special to each individual resort. This theme is
something that is constantly around you throughout the entire resort
property: in the room, in the dining area, outdoors, etc. It makes a nice
story flow that follows you everywhere and there is a special amount of
detail in each themed element.

I feel that taking something from a movie and plopping it into a room or
even worse, the entire resort, would make the resort less unique. Caribbean
Beach is not the All-Star resort, it's the Caribbean Beach resort, which
although shares a similiar name with Pirates of the Caribbean, shares
nothing else. I think planting the movie into the resort would make the
story flow of the resort inconsistent and it sounds like just an easy way
for the resort to make more money.

Let's leave the movie themes to the All-Star Movie Resort and not hurt an
already perfectly themed resort.</pre>

Very interesting take on the topic. I have to admit I thought it would be a great idea; however, you have made me think twice about it. Hmmm, I will have to think on it a bit more and consider the impact it could have on other resorts in the future if the theming idea were to be expanded.

But the POTC obsessed in me is clouding my judgement:wink: So I think if it's properly done, it would be a very neat idea!

I can see both side of the argument (if you wanna call it that) but I think if it is done in a tasteful, not in-your-face way, then it can work out to be nice! :0)

I like the idea of there being a Pirates of the Caribbean room/hotel but not implementing it into an already themed resort. Ask yourself this... what if they took the Polynesian Resort and... made it a "Finding Nemo" resort... or they took the Animal Kingdom Resort and... made it the "Jungle Book" resort? I think resorts need to be seperated from movies/attractions. Pirates of the Caribbean is a movie and a ride... and I won't be surprized if it becomes a musical and on ice show.

I think it'd actually make more sense if the room was in the All-Star Movies resort. You know... movies... Pirates of the Caribbean is a movie... follow me? lol

I can certainly understand the viewpoints that have been expressed about interfering with the theming that is already in place at CBR. However, I don't see a problem with making some rooms POTC themed, without changing the themng iin the exterior sections of the resort.

I like the idea as long as it's just a few rooms at each resort. My first thought was we could do Meet the Robinsons at the Contemporary. There could be a few Lilo & Stitch themed rooms at the Polynesian. A POTC room or two could even work well down in the Alligator Bayou at POR. Coronado Springs could have an Emperor's New Groove room or fit the Three Caballero's in there. Brother Bear at the Wilderness Lodge would work pretty well too! One specific movie or character theme should definitely NOT take over the whole theming of a resort. I agree with the OP that each resort has it's own story to tell. One of my favorites is POFQ and I wouldn't want it to lose that New Orleans theming.

These rooms would be nice if you were celebrating a special occassion or for someone who is a really big fan of a particular Disney movie. I absolutely love Brother Bear and would totally enjoy staying in a room that was themed after that movie.

Maybe we SHOULD just keep all movies away from the resorts...lets not get to crazy here I think we should just stay true to whats there

I think in many parts of CBR, the themeing is modest at best. Placing these suites into a room, behind the closed doors, would no more wreck the theme than stepping into the Hall of Presidents and seeing Ronal Reagen wrecks the theme of Liberty Square. Pirates fits into a Caribbean theme as well as anywhere. Since the door is closed, the putside theme is barely effected if at all.

CBR is a fine place, but when compared to others in themeing, it falls way short.

I wrote on this subject a week ago. Basically, I hate the idea of the DL suites coming here. Another ultra-expensive idea is not what I like. But if they want to make some more affordable suites theme to pirates, or even take an area of CBR and change it to a PoTC then that's fine too. Here's what I wrote...

That assumes that what's there is making money and is the best it can be. Do we think a PoTC theme resort would do financially better than CBR does now?

I've never stayed at CBR, so I wouldn't be able to defend my way of thinking as to that. But, I can say that I like how the first post in this thread was stated. It presented a very clear argument as to why this shouldn't be done. And personally, I have noticed the theming of the resorts and I feel there's a certain environment that shouldn't be tampered with.

However, if the changes are just in certain rooms and guests that do not wish to have the environment "ruined" for them cannot see these changes, then I don't particularly see the harm. But then, there's also the idea that guests may have to view posters and advertisements around the resort about the new rooms, which could ruin the theme for them.

Sorry, just trying to get all my thoughts down. Personally, as long as there's no sign of change on the outside, I don't see a problem.

The Pros and Cons have been well stated. I can see where everyone is coming from. I have stayed twice a the CBR and it's really one of my favorites though I haven't stayed there in a while. I feel it's all in how it's handled; not over-done, just in the rooms and only in one section of the resort.
