I always put vinegar on my french fries!! SO GOOD!!!
Loved the segment on the Rose & Crown.
Lou - had to smile when you had vinegar on your fries!
Most people look at me like I have 2 heads when I do that. I was beginning to think I was the only person in the world who did that. Glad to see someone else enjoys their fries the "right" way.![]()

I married a Brit. Either salt and pub vinegar on Fish & Chips or gravy. My wife puts gravy on everything... chips, cabbage, etc...
I think my "chip" condiment varies based upon locale and accompanying main dish. If I'm eating fish and chips in a pub setting, then I'm definitely more likely to use vinegar. If I'm eating a burger and fries, then it's usually ketchup, mayonnaise, ketchup & mayonnaise, tarter sauce, or ketchup & tarter sauce.
I like malt vinegar and my fish and mixed in with the ketchup for my fries. I do not like my
fries squishy, so I must have a dipping cup on the side. but malt vinegar rocks.

I spend quite a bit of time in Canada and that's where I learned to use vinegar on my fries.

Not really sure about this... maybe we should have a UK Fish & Chips "research meeting" one of these days!![]()

Hey, I'd put mayo or bananas on my fries for a chance to hang out with Lou at DW!
I should've mentioned that I learned it in the actual Canada, not the paviliion.

I love the vinegar and always got strange looks when I did it. My parents are from Scotland so I wasn't sure if it was just a Brit thing. Two other things fall into this category-banana and butter sandwich and Beans on toast with HP/A1 sauce.
Lou,
Is this video available for download someplace on the website. I have been trying to download it with my Zune software but it just won't work. All your other videos downloaded fine. I really want to see this!! And I put vinegar on my fries too, I thought it was normal!
Thanks for the help!

Chips with out Vinegar!!!
You gotta be kidding.
LOTS of Vinegar and lots of Salt.
By the way, I'm talking about REAL chips. Thick chunky pieces of potato. Not skinny oil filled Fries.
I have just made myself hungry.
Fish and Chips should be swimming in malt vinegar. This is the only way to eat them.
French Fries (Chips) must have Salt & Vinegar on them - Yummy!

Speaking as Scot, eg coming from a culture where everything is capable of being deep-fried, Fish and chips simply have to be consumed with lashings of salt and vinegar.....the perfect sauce thereafter is Tomato Sauce, or Catsup as you would have it in the US.....lord my mouth is watering already
