WDW Radio Show Disney Podcast #139 - October 4, 2009

Hello and welcome to The WDW Radio Show - Your Walt Disney World Information Station. I am your host, Lou Mongello and this is show #139 for the week of October 4, 2009. Thank you for tuning in once again

There is some exciting and interesting news coming from Walt Disney World this week, starting with two big ways for you to not only save on an upcoming vacation, but even get in to the parks for free, and feeling good about doing it. We'll also look at how Disney is moving forward online, before looking at two trains – one that's slow and relaxing, and one that may be coming that's quite the opposite.

This past weekend in Walt Disney World was fun and exciting for many, as Guests from around the world came to participate in one or more special events. In this week's roundtable, we'll look at the WDWRadio private event at the Adventurers Club, our walk around and review of Epcot's International Food & Wine Festival, the Expedition Everest Challenge race and more.

Stay tuned to the end of the segment for a new contest, where you can win a limited edition giveaway from the Adventurers Club willed with goodies. As a bonus this week, I'm also including a number of new videos, featuring my interview with Gary Vaynerchuk about trying wines at the Festival, as well as a two-part video chronicling our walk around World Showcase and live review of the kiosks and event.

I'll announce the date and location for our next Meet of the Month in Walt Disney World before playing more of your listener voicemails at the end of the show, so sit back, relax, and enjoy this week's episode of the WDW Radio Show.

You can email the show or call the voicemail TOLL FREE at 888-703-2171.

Visit the web site at wdwradio.com and talk about the show by visiting and posting in the WDW Radio Show message forums

Thanks for listening! Be sure to tune in next week!

The Adventurers Club / Expedition Everest Challenge weekend was a blast! I signed up for it last spring when Lou announced the AC event. The Food and Wine Festival was icing on the cake :-)

I'll vouch that the EEC was a soaking wet event. Fortunately, I was in the first wave of runners, so the deluge didn't start until I was halfway through the scavenger hunt. Wow, that was a monsoon!

Kungaloosh!

After Lou talked about the "bullet train" from Tampa to MCO I've become even less excited about it...because as Lou was describing the details I'm doing the math/physics in my head.

While the train is touted to be going 120 mph...will it really ever attain that and if so for how long?

According to Rand McNally it's 84 miles from Tampa to Orlando. The first stop is Lakeland, which is about 30 miles from Tampa and about another 30 miles to WDW and therefore about 20-24 miles to the Orlando Convention center.

With these short runs it's debatable whether the train would ever attain the billed 120 mph and even if it did, you need to account for 3 accelerations and 3 decelerations...these take time.

This train appears to be a big federal boondoggle IMO...that's on top of the fact that I doubt that the $20/rider will cover costs once the federal money runs out.

Great show this week, Lou! Your huge roundtable with everybody on both the Everest Adventurer's Weekend and the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival was quite a bit of fun. Coming off the heels of my recent trip to WDW, Food & Wine was indeed a pleasure. I wish I could of joined you guys for the Everest Adventurer's Weekend, as it sounded like a ton of fun! It must of been great to see the Adventurer's Club once again. As always, amazing job, Lou! Keep up the great work!
