podcast 158 - Feb 21, 2010

I'm not sure of the protocal, but I wanted to comment on this weeks podcast...so here it goes...

I loved the interview about Mickey's Birthday Land. It is amazing that this 'temporary' land a) lived for 20 years and b) spawned the concept of the character meet and greet locations.

I Remember how well conceived the Mickey meet was in that it maintained the illusion that you were going to his private dressing room. I don't know if they still do this, but I remember waiting (quite a while) with my kids to meet mickey.
When we were finally close, we were escorted to his 'dressing' room, which had his name on the door. There were only 2 or 3 families let in at a time so we got a nice, almost private meet with the big cheese. My 'disney' backstage mind noticed that we were led past 2 other doors, that had hooks on each....hmmm...could it have been that in between families, they moved the 'MICKEY' sign from door to door, so more people could meet different Mickeys at the same time? Nahh...there's only one Mickey!!!

Great show Lou...and sorry about your Dad.

David

Sorry to hear Mickey's house is being razed for progress. Or since its going backwards in time, umm...errr congress...oh, whatever the opposite of progress is.

French - a la prochaine - pronounced "a la pro-chen" is a parting phrase with roughly the same meaning as "until next time".

Lou, I have to tell you that I truly enjoy the shows that go in depth about the attractions and lands of the WDW Parks. Mr. Korkis exudes a sense of fun and excitement that is contagious. The two of you are a great pair when it comes to sharing the Disney stories. You have taught me to look around as I walk through the Parks. I have begun to notice so much detail beyond the the obvious. I want to say thank you for a job well done. I tell everyone I can about your podcast, books, site, and cds.

Korkis always makes for great podcasts (as do the Wayback Machine trips). Would love to see the show get back to doing more things like this!

I for one will miss Toon Town. I really only remember it from my trip in 08 on my honeymoon (last one before that was ~1990). But my wife and I kinda left most of Toon Town for a trip when we had kids. We went through Mickey and Minnie's houses and to the barn to get pictures with Mickey and Minnie. Loved all the details and such, but we didnt explore anything else, thinking we would have a chance in the future.

I would wish they would still keep Mickey and Minnie's houses somewhere in the park. I get the whole story that its their "country houses" but for kids its a great addition to the park. I think most kids think the characters live in WDW, and there is a life sized house that they "live" in. WIthout them, I think a little bit of the magic is leaving.

Im excited for the Fantasy Land expansion though.
