WDW Radio Show # 162 - March 21, 2010 - Your Walt Disney World Information Station

Hello and welcome to The WDW Radio Show - Your Walt Disney World Information Station. I am your host, Lou Mongello, and this is show #162 for the week of March 21, 2010.

I'll open up the inbox and answer more of your listener emails this week on topics such as Walt Disney and the Olympics, "date night" in Walt Disney World without the kids, hidden tributes in the parks, the Utilidors, Port Orleans, unused passes, in-room dining and much more!

Walt Disney World is all about making dreams come true, and special moments that remain timeless. And during our visits, parents, grandparents, husbands and wives, and nervous young men about to propose look for ways to makes vacation experiences, or even individual moments or occasions even more magical. And you may not know this, but there is a team of people behind-the-scenes at Walt Disney World whose job it is to do just that - help create those special memories with some very unique gifts and experiences.

I'll have some announcements at the end of the show before playing more of your voicemails, so sit back, relax, and enjoy this week's episode of the WDW Radio Show.

Re: WDW Radio Show # 162 - March 21, 2010 - Your Walt Disney World Information Statio

In reference to the question about Epcot's utilidor it was stated the "spaces aren't interconnected," and I may have misunderstood the meaning of that statement, but the utilidor is a continuous underground passageway that will take you from the Future World East breezeway area, past Spaceship Earth, and all the way around to the Future World West breezeway. It is basically horseshoe shape. There is also a straight passage that splits off to the backstage area behind the stroller and wheelchair rental on the east side of Entrance Plaza, allowing for vehicle access.

The passage on the east side is actually quite sizable to help with supplying Electric Umbrella and Mousegear. While they don't have the fancy garbage disposal system MK has, there are underground trash compactors that have drop chutes accessible from the surface. There are also break rooms, storage areas (as was stated), and even the prep kitchen for the Electric Umbrella is on the "bottom" floor.

For reference, this is all based on my 2005 CP experience so they may have done some major changes that invalidate everything I've stated.

Another interesting note about moving around backstage is the Bikes at the Studios. These are freely available at bike racks thoughout the backstage areas, Amsterdam
style(!), for Cast Members to pick up and drop off. It seems to work quite well, as there are normally similar amounts of Cast wanting to go to a location as there are wanting to come from that location, so the distribution of
    bikes flows nicely.

Bikes are also available backstage at Disney's Animal Kingdom, but are not the quickest
way to get around in my opinion, because of the gigantic loop around the perimiter of the safari! This is a shame because although Lou talked about out of place CM's not being so important in AK, in my opinion a CM in Asia costume is very out of place in Africa.
