The Disaster that is now Fantasmic
We did the dinner package this past Thursday. And its a good thing we did. The show was packed even during a very quiet week. The dinner package people enter the same gate which is crazy and difficult. The CMs were clearly overwhelmed and the whole thing is a mess.
The next night we also hit the Studios. By 4 o'clock the place was relatively dead. several of our group were able to do the Tower of Terror twice in a row just walking on it. Why? My guess is because people were sticking around for Fantasmic

We did the dinner package in 05 and they made us go into the gate by the restrooms at the front of the park just as you enter by the stroller and Wheelchair place. Then follow this red brick path to Fantasmic, it was neat to see backstage for a little while. I have a picture of it too...

They don't do that anymore for the dinner package. It changed this year.

I know that. I wasn't replying to you. I was saying to the people who went backstage that it has changed.

Ugh. I was afraid of that, but it was, unfortunately, an inevitability that I tried to ignore. Can you imagine what it will be like in the summer? I can't remember though, will they go to more shows a week during the peak seasons like summer and the Spring Break weeks?

gotcha.
And let me add, that I would try to avoid the Studios on Fantasmic days. It is quieter. Afternoon touring on those days will be nice

I'm surprised that they didn't just take is down for a long, extended refurbishment much like the Wonders of Life at Epcot, Space Mountain/TTA or Typhoon Lagoon.

We went to go into Fantasmic! about 30 mins before its scheduled start time and got turned away. I've never had that happen before, and it seemed relatively slow in all the other parks during the time we were there. I'm not sure if I like this 2 nights a week thing

I wondered if the decrease in shows would cause this kind of chaos. It's really too bad as it's a neat show but I don't want to get there hours beforehand. Thanks for the info!

From what I understand, the changing of the show frequency has nothing to do with Fantasmic (or a refurb of it) and everything to do with the new AI attraction and wanting to get crowds over to it for the "Finale" show each night.
Sometimes all you need is a reminder that out there lies a better place... a better world... a Walt Disney World.

Yes, I was kicking myself for not booking the dinner package when I was there in Jan. I went to Fantasmic on Mon. Jan. 12th and knew it might be busier than usual since there were only two shows a week. I tried to head over to the theater at a little before six, but my friend was making fun of me for wanting to go so soon. I finally convinced him to go a little after six and it was standing room only already!!!! We managed to find a seat on the very far left, but barely!
I think that was nuts!! It was a slow time of year and really slow all week except for Fantasmic.
I am about to go to Disneyland and really want to see Fantasmic, but I here it is an even worse mess there and only shows on the weekends. We shall see!! I will make it happen though, becase I really want to see the Peter Pan sequence!
