| Re: Favorite SSE Narration Well, i really liked and actually remember when Walter did it. I think Judy is "ok" but this attraction just HAS to use a male voice. One that is powerful and moving. Judy is exactly the opposite of that. Her voice seems so passive and eh, weak. But, it is still one of my favourite rides. Irons was also fantastic. | Re: Favorite SSE Narration I remember when Walter Cronkite was added...There was just something about the way he read the script that always made it my favorite narration. I was really turned off the first time I heard Jerome Irons, not because it was a bad (it grew on me) but because Walter was gone and I wanted him back...kinda like that original annoying newspaper boy voice at the printing press scene EXTRA! EXTRA! READ ALL ABOUT IT! on second thought , it wasn't anything like that...but I do miss them both. |

| Re: Favorite SSE Narration I LOVE the Jeremy Irons narration. I love everything about him and the script. Nothing personally against Walter Cronkite. The narration just sounded too much like a news reporter. I much enjoyed the chilling accent of Jeremy Irons.

| Re: Favorite SSE Narration My favorite is Jeremy Irons... I don't remember anyone before that, so while I do enjoy Dame Judi, Jeremy Irons is "classic" to me.

| C-Ticket Holder | Re: Favorite SSE Narration I also think the Jeremy Irons version was the best. I think that was the first way I heard it, so it makes sense it would be my favorite. When they changed it to the new version, I was very sad... in fact, I don't really like any of the recent changes to SSE.

| Re: Favorite SSE Narration My favorite narration is the original, because of the first impression I had of the attraction. I was an Imagineer wannabe (and still am), and will never forget Nov. 2, 1982, when I arrived at EPCOT Center for the first time by monorail from the Contemporary at about 4 PM. I was accompanied only by my camera and a pocket tape recorder. I walked on to Spaceship Earth, and was 'blown away' by the spectacle. They did it right !!! With the sound recording I was fortunate to make on that first ride, I am able to bring back that wonderful experience, so I am partial to the original narration.Last edited by goofy393; 01-21-2010 at 12:03 PM.. "needs more suport" ??No one is underserving of a good bashing when required. Criticism is wonderful when necessary. While i do like the recent refurb of sse....it is almost universally agreed that Judi just doesnt rise up to the level of past narrators. I wouldnt be suprised if in the next few years....they replace her. | |

| I had to vote for the Jeremy Irons narration. He has a very distinctive voice that seems to fit so well with the historical perspective presented. As far as Dame Judi Dench, I don't have a problem with her, she presents the material quite well, but the problem is with the material she has to work with, it seems to be written to those on a grade school level.

I can't grow to the new changes to SSE, and I've ridden it quite a few times since it re-opened. Dench makes the script feel campy and I hate the interactive nonsense. And what happened to the music? There was this really nice string section that played when you were about to descend downhill, now it's gone. Bring back Irons! Also hate the new TTA, but will discuss in another thread. |
