I tried getting on last night. The site must have been overwhelmed. I'll try again in a few days.
I was just interested to know if anyone has signed up for Give A Day Get A Disney Day yet, I search in my area, and it looks like we will have to do a little driving to volunteer (we live in a super small town). So far it looks like a well organized program.

I signed up...we looked last night and there are only a few organizations in our area as well...but, the listings are also only for the next 60 days..so in 60 days (for example) it might change...so things may come up closer to you (at least...we're hoping lol)![]()
There are some just a couple of miles from here and I'm thinking about signing up!

I was kind of disappointed in the number of groups that are included. It looks like if an organization is not part of the helping hands network, it doesn't work. And, there are so many volunteer organizations that are out there, it would be nice to see Disney open up to other groups.
The happiest place on earth is where my kids are!
I'm Canadian and I was worried there would be even less opportunities to choose from, but there were more than I expected in my area. Granted, I live near Toronto which is very big, but even then in my much smaller area there were a few. I ended up choosing to volunteer at the coat check at a local theater that performs free plays (mostly for children). I only wish there were opportunites at the local Humane society... although probably better that there wouldn't because I'm sure I would have ended up taking home lots of friends for my puppy!
Does anyone know how long the volunteering lasts? It says on the website that there is no set time (ei. its not actually a "day") and that each organization sets up what they think is an appropriate time for the ticket and that completion of the entire listed opporunity is required, but I noticed that some of the opportunities say they are long term which is defined as "6 months or more". One for instance was being a rep coach for a soccer team... which I can't really see just giving a day to...
There was a lot to offer in our area. It looks like there were a lot of people already signing up. The Humane society is filling up. We wanted to do something with our whole family. Our youngest to participate is 9 which limited our choice. We chose the linus project which makes blankets for ill children. We will probably not be going to Disney this year so we will donate. I think this is a great opportunity to get your foot in the door for volunteering and involve the kids!
There were many opportunities in my area! I was pleasantly surprised because I live in a small town. There was one in a state park near me ( a park ranger rover or something like that) so I signed up for that and I signed up my two teenage sons(they don't know it yet, haha). The volunteer shift is from 9am-1230, on Feb 13th.
Site was overwhelmed, with many technical problems over the last few days. It all seems to working now.
I've signed up to volunteer this month. Almost all the opportunities are a distance from me (thanks to rural New jersey), but there was lots of variety.
I signed up to work for a Red Cross blood drive...
being close to Philly gave me an abundance of options I think~

Has anyone been emailed yet after signing up? I'm a little confused... it says you should be emailed by the organization that you're volunteering with within 5 days (its only been 3 days for me) but are you also supposed to be emailed by the Hand on Network? I'm Canadian, so its Go Volunteer instead of hands on, but it should be the same thing right? I just want to make sure that I didn't do anything wrong... the one I signed up for isn't there anymore when I search, but that should be because I signed up for it with my bf and so we took the available spots, right?
I signed up yesterday with the American Red Cross and already received a follow up today.
Maybe you could call the organization and follow up directly with them???

Hmmm did you get an email just from the organization, or also from the Hands On network? When I signed up it was new years and then the weekend, but I would think someone would have been around to get to me today? I'll give it a few more days... but the disney website says that if you havent heard from them in 5 days to re-sign up for it and the spot is gone already![]()
