Does Star Tours Have Official Closing Date?

I will be at WDW October 2nd through the 9th and am wondering if I will be too late to catch a few last rides on the old Star Tours. As far as I've heard, it's closing in October 2010...but no official date. Anyone know if that means October 1st, 31st or somewhere in between?

Yeah I just saw that announcement but thought that the language was a little vague on when the ride was actually closing. Despite declaring it the Last Tour to Endor...a lot of the verbiage makes it sound like you'd be securing ONE OF THE last rides on Star Tours, not the official last ride.

Since I'll be there in December 2011, I suppose there's a pretty good chance it'll be open again by then.

Lou has announced on his latest podcast, the closing date for WDW's Star Tours is Sept. 8th.

The one here at Disneyland closes July 26th and reopens in May 2011.. Perhaps the same length of time can be assumed for the one there.

It is believed to be reopened May 2011. In time for Star Wars weekend.

yeh they would never have the trophy attraction for Star Wars weekend closed... during Star Wars Weekend...

I'm still not sure why this one is such a major refurb project? It's not like they're fixing track or anything. The video is being created somewhere, the vehicle is being created and tested somewhere else. Put the two together and do some tests. Once it's ready, wheel the old ride vehicle out overnight, install the other one in its place, and be ready for opening the next day. Seems pretty simple to me.

This IS an extensive rehab. The vehicles are not just wheeled in and out. Ones this size are generally constructed in place. The vehicles already exist though - but they are probably getting all new hydraulics, etc. while the time is available. The insides will likely be completely rebuilt. There is new technology which must be applied.

yeh but to think a 6-7 month closure... i mean Space Mountain closed for that long... but they did some major work to that... i dunno seems longer than necessary...
