Haven't heard anything on this, but I don't understand a closing either because it JUST OPENED a year ago?
ok... correct me if i am wrong... TSM went down to be upgraded during these past few weeks to add new games for TS3... right? then why do i see it going down again in August for a month...? is that really necessary... i mean i will be down during Aug. and i am not happy about this, but for an attraction to be refurbed or upgraded twice in a matter of a few months is a bit over the top... especially with TS3 coming out at the end of June... chances are the film will be just coming out of theaters, and the ride will just boom! close again...
is this true?

It does seem odd to close twice in such a short period, though one may be for the upgrade and the other for different maintenance.
but wouldnt they do it all at once...? that would seem logical... i think...

Don't sweat it. You're making it sound like that ride being closed it going to destroy your entire vacation. Plus with the insane crowds in the summer months (it still boggles my mind why anyone even bothers) the chances of riding it must be slim, unless you manage to snag a fast pass before they run out, or are willing to waste two hours standing around on line.
nah your right... im just confused by the whole thing... but Disney has been made to do things that make us go, "huh...!"
i have been down in late Aug. in the past and the lines are not as long as mid-summer... hopefully it stays that way this summer...

I don't have a clue what the second refurb downtime is for. But you'd think a computer-based ride like TSM would involve just a few hours of overnight reprogramming. Change out one game for another, and the next day, no one is any the wiser that something was switched. Now, if they're repairing a track or something mechanical, then yes, that could take a bit more time. Just a matter of what those people have in mind for August, I guess.
see now that was what i was thinking... im not overly mad about the ride going down while i am there... (i have been there 3 times since TSM opened... have actually never been on it...) but just the fact that it is closing twice in one year is peculiar...

I always missed the Fast Passes the first two times I was there, but managed to wait in line this past December and rode it for the first and only time. The ride shut down for about a half hour while we were waiting, so that also shorted the line every now and again as impatient riders and parents with crying children decided to walk away and come back later. Then it went down AGAIN just before I got through the turnstiles. Took quite a bit of restraint to decide to stay, but it would have been a waste of time to walk at that point, only to return and wait on line again.
yeh... i agree... thats my problem... i dont rush to get to the attraction... and with no fast passes, and a 120 minute wait... i can find many things that i can do with my time than stand there for that attraction...

ok... i get that... but... why not get it all done at once... close the attraction for 2 weeks in may, and add the TS3 and the exit gates if that is what they are doing... kill two birds with one stone... why cant Disney do that more often...?

TSM didn't go down in May (the changing of the game was an overnight thing). But like others have said, when it goes down in Aug, it's to add exit gates.
