When to purchase passes

We might be taking a quick trip to WDW in December and will only need 2 adult and one child 2 day no hopper passes.
I am just looking for the most cost effective way to do this. I usually buy them from CAA(AAA) or direct from WDW ahead of time. Is it cheaper than buying right at the gate? I recall one time there was a buy one ticket get same cheaper if you buy for the next day. It might have just been a special for that time period. It was a few years ago.
I usually like to have everything done before we go, but since this is just a three day mini vacation I am trying to keep cost down.

I use mousesavers.com to help me when it comes to where to save and what to do... Looking at what your trying to get it seems according to that site that there is no major discounts on 2 day magic your way passes (the standard ticket) however of you were to look online your safest bet might be undercovertourist.com... Check it out and see if there are any deals...

There is no such thing as a legitimate discount on 2-day tickets.

Disney typically does not sell 1-day or 2-day tickets to discounters at any sort of discount - this the discounters either don't carry them or sell them at a premium over the direct ticket price. So for such a ticket you might as well go direct through Disney.

You can order them online if there is the possibility of a price increase increase, although it is very doubtful one would happen in the next month. You can purchase for will-call pickup and save on the shipping charge.
