I can proudly say I have never used a cell phone in any Disney Park.
I take my little 'pay as you go' phone with me to check in on a relative once a day while I'm in WDW. Even at home my friends and family know not to call me on my cell unless it's an emergency like a 'Tsunami is coming' type of emergency. When I'm out, driving around, doing errands or visiting somewhere, I don't want others calling to converse with me; that's for when I'm at home and have my land line available. I sure don't want to be bothered with it while I'm in my favorite place that I don't get to visit as often as I'd like.....never in WDW. But I don't mind others using theirs if they are polite and considerate about it.

Good news! Balzac is out of business. No more of those stupid carts.

It's a thing of complete irony for me... I was never fond of the Balzac carts. The constant sound of a ball being dribbled just drives me nuts (I hear it from kids walking my neighborhood as it is). But, DS always shows an interest in them (he's a 5 year old boy and they are balls... duh!) so I told him on the last trip that maybe the next time we went, I'd get him one. Now... the "next time" is planned, we will have spending money annnnnd no Balzac. Oh well.

Sounds like a win-win to me.

We take our phones in case we're split up and because we have family at home that may need to reach us. Other than that, we only use it for the camera and the TouringGuides.com app.
The part that makes me kind of sad is that people talking on their phone has stopped people from talking to EACH OTHER! One of my favorite things about Disney World is meeting new people and talking about your vacation and where you're from etc. I've met some of the nicest people in the world while I've been just sitting waiting or resting. Now, it seems everyone is on their phone, and there's not much conversation.
there is just too much connectivity lately... people do not know how to let loose and have a good time...theyd rather bury themselves in their smartphones...

No need for a smart phone at Disney. You're already AT the parks. What were we doing before phones? Following around paper maps and walking up to a restaurant or attraction to see what the line was like, if we weren't near the ride board. As a way to communicate with family in case you get seperated (or intentionally split up, I suppose). But do we really need those silly Touring Plans on our phones? No. Not really. You're on vacation. Wing it.
Well it's official... the "no cell phones in the parks" rule has just been passed for the upcoming trip. When we told my step-son (19 years old) he looked at us like we were saying he had to leave his liver at home or something. Too bad. Deal.
