Magic Kingdom turns the BIG 40 on October 1, 2011. Who's going???

We didn't plan it this way, but my husband and I will be at WDW for the 40th Anniversary of the Magic Kingdom on October 1, 2011. After the 5K race in the morning, we plan to spend the day at the Magic Kingdom.

I have seen ZERO announcements of any special events at the Magic Kingdom for it's Anniversary. The only thing I have found is that they are selling special merchandise this whole year that you can purchase in the parks and online. I assume they will hand out special Anniversary park maps like they did at Epcot. Does anyone have any news on some special events on the actual date? I know D23 did some scavenger hunt already and will probably do something for it's members. But, what about the rest of us?

If you aren't able to make it to WDW this year, you can still purchase special 40th Anniversary merchadise through the Disney Store online HERE. The online selection is very limited and changes often. So, keep checking back!

I would never be caught dead at a milestone like this. Keep your pins and other keepsakes from that day, folks. I don't do crowds. Considering celebrations like that are usually 12-18 months long at Disney, I'll do just fine the following October, thank you very much

I doubt I will be able to go down for the 40th anniversary...though I would love to.

Will you guys be joining Lou for the 40 hour show at all?

I can swear to this statement. As odd as it sounds, I have never once listened to any of Lou's podcasts. Strange, huh? I first found these boards way back when I was searching for park music. I've stuck around ever since, but never broke down to listen to his podcasts

I know, right? I list to other podcasts, but honestly, never once have I heard this one. I came for the music, and I stay for the great people and conversations here. But never ever have I heard this particular show. Oh well.

I'm going! I was so excited to be there because I thought it was a big deal but it seems there's nothing special planned. We're celebrating in our own way with dinner at the Crystal Palace.
