We'll be at the Magic Kingdom for it's 40th Birthday. Since it is a Saturday AND it's birthday, I expect a lot of people. I haven't seen anything "official" on a celebration. But, they will do 'something". You can pretty much guarantee a special park map. Maybe, even commemorative ticket books like they used to sell. I saw that "hinted" somewhere. Also, a special fireworks display that evening has been "hinted". We'll be at DAK that morning for a 5K race and then try to rush over for the opening of the MK. There will probably be some proclamation at the Train Station. We'll just have to wait two more weeks to find out . . .

Sometimes all you need is a reminder that out there lies a better place... a better world... a Walt Disney World.

Do you know if you have to purchase the items at the signing or can you bring already purchased items from home????

It seems as if people are kind of just expecting something to be done when I really doubt that's the case. They're spending a boat load of money on California Adventure, Fantasyland, and another billion-dollar ship. Disneyland never had any sort of celebration other than 50 that I can recall and Disneyland Paris has only had 15.

Disneyland's 50th was celebrated by adding attractions to Disney World which I never understood an was pretty subdue in general.

I think he was thinking for more of a year-long celebration. Usually they will push something past one day. I'm sure they will celebrate on the actual anniversary, but to not to a year-long thing, especially in conjunction with their existing (and annoying) "What Will YOU Celebrate" promotion, you think it would be a great tie-in. "They year, we're celebrating 40 magical years. What are YOU celebrate?" Makes sense. Or at least WOULD have.
Really, Walt? Disneyland is MY land? Why would I want a silly little land when I can have the WORLD.

Shocking that Disney's announcement on how to celebrate 40 years is through overpriced collectibles. Sooooo un-Disney-like.

They have been hinting in the comments areas on the Disney Parks blog about how there are many fun surprises planned but they will remain secrets until October 1st.

For the day, for the balance of 2011? For the typical 18-month celebration? I don't follow the blogs.

So Disney just posted the itinerary for the 40th.

Other than things you can purchase, I'm not impressed with the events, doesn't seem too special. The old adage 'if you are going to do something, do it well, or don't do it at all.'
