In 1992, WDWR reached an agreement for a 20-year permit for the development of
part of the Disney property regarding wetlands issues. In particular, as part of the agreement,
Disney purchased the 8,500-acre Walker Ranch and donated it to The Nature Conservancy
as a large-scale wetlands mitigation and preserve area, called the Disney Wilderness Preserve.
Disney also agreed to fund the preserve’s management for 20 years while The Nature Conservancy
manages it. Disney also modified its original planned expansion to affect only 446 acres of
wetlands and placed permanent conservation easements on 7,500
acres of WDWR property guarantee that the land will remain in its
natural state.

The quick sales for The Complete Walt Disney World may have been fueled in part by the Neals optimistic, largely favorable view of Disney World. But they also said their book is standing out because of a dedication that few publishers could match. They spent five years researching, writing and editing it, the last two living in Celebration so that they could get into the Disney parks every day if necessary. In all, they visited Disney World more than 700 times.

The book contains 447 color photographs, including quite of few of the Neals' daughter, Micaela, 13, and almost all shot by Mike Neal. There are also hundreds of articles organized into 76 chapters.

You're going to think that the only facts I can find about Disney are conservation related but I just keep finding these...

…The Disney Wildlife Conservation Fund is one of three organizations that bought a large plot of Brazilian land in an attempt to protect the endangered Lear's macaw. The organizations teamed to purchase over 3,000 acres of habitat for the rare bird. Only 451 of the birds remain.

Palm:: Host to the FUNAI's qualifying rounds, the Palm course plays a bit shorter than Magnolia, topping out at a little more than 7,000 yards. Palm trees come into play throughout this classic Florida parkland layout. The 18th is consistently ranked as one of the Tour's most difficult holes, playing 454 yards to a small, tilted green, often into the wind.
