WDW Trivia and Games Discuss Magic Kingdom Trivia in the Trivia and Games Forums forums; I'll go, probably not tough, though. What do you see popping out of the pot at the end of the rainbow in IASW's Ireland?...

Q1. According to Life magazine, how many employees did WDW have at it's opening in 1971.

    Q2. (extra Credit) Name them!

There's Roy Disney & Captain Mike (I think that's his name, he used to lead the parade?)

I'm going to take a blind stab at this...

My gut reaction said 8,000, but I'm going to go with 4,000. Final Answer (How 2001 is that?)

They were (in alphabetical order): Ann, Annie, Alfie, Arthur, Artie (who is still there working at the Main Street Exposotion Hall), Benny....

That seems to be a very low number. According to Since the World Began by Jeff Kurth they had that many walk in applications per week. They forecast that they needed 6,200 cast members to operate every aspect of the park.

By January of 1972 the workforce was assessed at more than 8,000 people, so Lou, your instincts were right. So where Life got 1500 from is anyone's guess

James is right! 1500 cast members and they posed for a picture at the opening of Disney World in from of the castle.
For a picture of this cover, check out ebay auction number 2240147163. My seller's name is rrppediatrics and I have a collection of vintage disney memorobelia for sale in this and other auctions.

    You're up James!
