Last week we took a look at the new Princess makeovers for Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora, Ariel and Belle. Reading your comments, I realized that the hair on a princess is something that many of us feel very strongly about. Let’s take a look at the makeovers of the final five princesses.

Jasmine

Jasmine has very simple fashion taste and Disney kept that in mind when they were redesigning her. Her earrings are hoops now and you can see her ears. Her shirt was a little bit larger than the one in the past and her sleeves were made transparent. Jasmine also had a tendril that I really love coming out of her hairstyle. In the newest transformation, her waistline is higher so you can’t see as much of her stomach anymore. The top has a really small pointed end in the center that goes towards her belly button. From the pictures Disney has shown us so far, I can’t really tell if she still has pants or if it’s a skirt now. I also can’t tell if Jasmine still has multiple scrunches in her hair or just a ponytail now. I like Jasmine’s now look MUCH more than her old one. I am going to want some piece of merchandise with her on it.

Pocahontas

Pocahontas was a little disappointing in the first refurbishment. All they did was add sparkles to her dress-nothing special. However, this recent transformation is my favorite one out of all of them. The top fringe of Pocahontas’ dress is bejeweled with the colors of the wind (see what I did there) and her necklace is now tan with blue jewels scattered throughout it with one big jewel that drops down. My absolute FAVORITE thing they did to Pocahontas is add earrings. No, they aren’t gold like most of the other ones. They are feathers that perfectly match her dress. Two big feathers and two little pieces of what looks like leather fall from each earlobe. I want these earrings! I think this takes the place of a crown on her head and make her look more like a princess than ever. I am so glad that Disney didn’t remove the tattoo from her right arm, because that is my favorite thing about her. I hope this leads to a face character and merchandise for women sooner rather than later.

Mulan

Where do I begin with his one? For the first refurbishment, her hair was in a bun and she was seen in the dress that is shown at the beginning of her movie. Disney added gold accents and made it look like royalty. I didn’t like this because Mulan, herself, thought that the dress didn’t reflect her personality and it just wasn’t her. It was like she was someone’s puppet. I just don’t think that Mulan would want to wear that, and I dislike her being seen in the dress that Mulan didn’t like in her movie. Not to mention, Mulan really finds out who she is when she is wearing the warrior outfit. In my opinion, this is equivalent to Cinderella or Snow White being seen at the parks in their rags. Then Disney attempted to change her look again last week. Mulan is now in a gold dress that I don’t remember seeing in ANY movie. It is another outfit that I would think that Mulan wouldn’t be proud of. I like the dress, but it’s not something I can picture Mulan wearing. Now let’s move on to her face. She is of a lighter complexion than she is in her movie. I don’t know why this ticks me off so much, but it does. I know that in the beginning of her movie women had to put white powder on their faces, but the way it is blended in the pictures just looks “off.” The makeup (lipstick, blush) on her face seems WAY too dark for her new, lighter complexion. The hair is my least favorite part of the whole thing. Why is it long? Just like the dress after the first makeover, I think that Mulan cutting her hair showed that she was not happy being who others wanted her to be. Mulan was her own person and no one could change that. I don’t mind the bun and Chinese accents at the top of her head, but I think the bun should be fuller and her hair should be shorter in the back. Overall, Mulan disappointed me. In a way, it reversed the message of the movie, which is to be you. I would much rather see her in her warrior outfit.

Tiana

Tiana didn’t really change that much in either makeover. In the first one, sparkles were sprinkled throughout her dress. A few small tendrils were added to the sides of her face, which I like. Besides those things, Tiana didn’t receive any other changes. Even when Disney decided to do another makeover on the girls, Tiana didn’t get any other major changes. I think that Tiana will be the one princess that won’t be getting merchandise or face character changes, or at least be the last to be redone. Her details don’t seem to be as noticeable as the other princesses, so why waste money on redoing her?

Rapunzel

I knew from the start that Rapunzel was going to look a little awkward because we are used to seeing her with CGI animation, not 2D. Prepping myself for looking at the picture, I was pleasantly surprised. They kept the playfulness in her eyes and the thickness of her hair. As with Tiana, Disney didn’t make any changes to Rapunzel the second time around. Overall, I prefer CGI Rapunzel over hand-drawn Rapunzel, but she still looks very nice and better than I expected.

____________________________________________________________________

I am confident that the newest batch of Disney Merchandise will feature the new princess looks. Slowly, the characters in the parks will start looking like their newly drawn counterpart on the website. I hope that, just like with Cinderella, that the other princesses’ looks will grow on me more than they have now.

Thanks to all of you, the premiere installment of “To Tell the Truth” was a huge success. I appreciate all your input and the great stories that you shared. I said at the beginning that I would be keeping score and, true to my word, I logged every correct answer. Congratulations Fran Cassano, Caitlin Corsello and Kendall F. for leading the pack and answering 4 out of 5 trivia questions correctly. Please enjoy your virtual trophy!

___________________________________________________________________

The Disney princesses are now more modern than ever! Last year, the princesses received a HUGE makeover that included glitter, makeup, and girly details. Just this past week, they received another one, but this one wasn’t as drastic for some of the princesses. Have you seen the new look yet? This blog will compare the originals to the two makeovers, plus expresses my opinion about both of these transformations and which looks I prefer.

Snow White

I believe that in the first makeover, Snow White was one of the better princesses. Her bow shrunk a little and her cape is gone. Her collar seemed to be higher and a vine was added to the left side of her dress. The one thing that I disliked about Snow White’s makeover was the sleeves-they were transparent with a blue and red hue. In the newest redo, her sleeves became solid blue and solid red once again with a gold band under them. The shade of red on her headband is now pink, and she has pink blush on. I think that the blush is a little too dark for her, but that might be just because I am picky. Overall, I think she looks younger than all of the other princesses, which is a good thing!

Cinderella

Cindy is the princess who has received the most obvious changes in the parks. When her movie was re-released last year, the face character began to echo the new look. In the first refurbishment, Cinderella had a few significant changes-her hair cut became more modern and her dress became simpler. She was given bangs that got longer as they came towards her left ear and her bun was a little smaller than it had been in the past. Her headband was adjusted so that you could see her ears for the first time-and realize that those circles on the ends of the headband were earrings. Her dress got puffier towards the bottom and sparkles were added. She no longer had the layers on the bottom half of her dress. The top half of the dress extends below her waist and is cut like a v at the meeting point. Her sleeves are wider and more transparent. In this second refurbishment, Cindy didn’t get any impacting changes. Her face just got another tiny dose of blush and a piece of hair was pulled out of her tight bun (which you will see a lot of princesses got). Overall, I deeply disliked Cinderella’s hair at first, but since then it has grown on me, and now I love it. In conclusion, Cinderella is one that took me a few months until I started to like it, but now it is one of my favorites.

Aurora

Sleeping Beauty has always had triangle face. Disney sharpened Aurora’s chin a little in the first revamp along with adding transparent sleeves. As with Snow White, a vine can be seen growing on the side of her dress. Her hair became a more natural blond and it didn’t just curl at the bottom-her hair was all curls. That area where the top part of the dress meets the bottom had a sharp V. Her necklace was gold instead of yellow. Last week, her crown received jewels and was also changed to a gold hue. Her bangs are much more natural, but to me her hair reminds me of wet, curly hair. It seems a little too droopy for her (not to mention that if you look at the picture I provided, in between her left arm and her body her hair has the original design while the rest is new). I really want to see Aurora merchandise with her in her blue gown, but it looks like this won’t be happening any time soon. I love Aurora, but she is not one of my favorite new princess looks.

Ariel

Ariel actually has a few variations. She had a TOTALLY new dress and it has been spotted in two colors-pink and green. I LOVE the green one, so that is the one I featured in the photo. This dress definitely fits her personality more than the big pink one from the movie. She actually has ocean waves in her hair (oh Disney and their puns…) along with purple shell earrings. Another purple shell can be found in the center of the neckline in her dress. These purple shells pay tribute to the mermaid form of her, along with the shade of green they picked for the dress. Disney left her huge side bang alone, which is one of my favorite physical things about her. In the refurbishment last week, they didn’t change much of her. They could have added more hair, but I am not entirely sure. Ariel was the only princess that I saw since the first refurbishment and immediately fell in love with. I hope we see her like this in the parks very soon and on merchandise when the Little Mermaid gets re-released.

Belle

After the first transformation, Belle’s hair looked…different. Personally, it looked like it was TOO much hair; almost as if some of it is fake. The front half of her original hair style and the bun stayed, but more hair was drawn down her back. Tendrils are added to the sides of her face. It just looks unrealistic to me. Like some of the other princesses, a vine can be seen on the side of her dress. Her sleeves were transparent and her gloves were also. The first thing I noticed when I saw the results of the makeover last week was that her dress is gold instead of yellow. The gold looks much more natural on her and brings out her hair very well. Her lips are a little darker and her eyes are a little lighter. Belle is starting to grow on me a little bit, and I am sure that her character in the parks will be extraodinary.

These are only half of the new refurbished princesses. Next week, I will go in depth with the other 5- including my favorite overall and my least favorite. You won’t want to miss this!
