One of my favorite things to do while in Walt Disney World is to search for Hidden Mickeys. They are either the profile or shape of Mickey Mouse hidden in paintings, props, or basically anything you could think of. But they are not just limited to Mickey; Hidden Mickeys actually encompass a vast number of hidden Disney characters located throughout Disney World. With so many hidden characters, it can be a time-consuming task to search for the Hidden Mickeys, but finding them can also be a lot of fun! So I’ve decided to put together a list of my favorite Hidden Mickeys to share with everyone in hopes to inspire you to go out and search and also to share with me your favorite Hidden Mickeys! I have also made the decision to not include any pictures in this post, as I don’t want to ruin the run of trying to find the Hidden Mickey by showing you exactly where it is. All I will supply to you is the name of the attraction and the general area in which to look for the described Hidden Mickey. After that, it’s happy hunting! So without further ado, here are my favorite Hidden Mickeys of WDW!

1. Haunted Mansion- There are two Hidden Mickeys that I particularly enjoy inside the mansion. The first is a classic three circle Hidden Mickey located on the table in the ballroom scene. This one can sometimes be moved by Cast Members, so look closely and be sure to check out the entire table. The second Hidden Mickey is located inside the graveyard and is located inside of a tomb. Look for the grim reaper and a classic three circle silhouette of a Hidden Mickey in one of his hands.

2. Big Thunder Mountain- When exiting the ride, keep your eyes peeled along the rock work lining the walkway for a full body profile of Tinkerbell. It is easier to find if you keep in mind that you will also be looking at the profile of her wings.

3. Peter Pan’s Flight- Look for a classic three circle Hidden Mickey located on the trunks of one of the trees as you wait in the queue.

4. Carousel of Progress- Located during the final scene of the attraction, there are two hidden Mickey’s to be found. Search the scene, decorated for Christmas, for a nutcracker shaped like a certain mouse. Then search for a large plush Mickey, obviously there as a present for one of the family members.

5. Mexico Pavilion- Located in the back of the Mexico Pavilion, pay close attention to the rising smoke from the volcano. Every few minutes you will find the outline of a classic Hidden Mickey, but keep in mind that this one is very difficult to find and could take a while to discover!

6. The Great Movie Ride- While loading into your ride vehicle, pay attention to the mural along the left side of the room. Located in the trees, there is a silhouette of Minnie’s profile, bow and all. This one can also be difficult to spot, so keep your eyes open.

7. Splash Mountain- This attraction houses my all time favorite Hidden Mickey. Located in the finale scene featuring the Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Da-Lady, keep your eyes peeled in the sky for a full body profile of Mickey Mouse laying down on his back.

8. Tomorrowland Transit Authority- While riding along the highway of the sky, look for a woman having her hair done by a futuristic styling machine. Somewhere on her person is a classic Hidden Mickey.

9. Swiss Family Treehouse- As you make your way to the top of the treehouse, be sure to pay attention to the trunk of the tree for a side profile of Mickey’s head.

10. Soarin’- In the scene soarin’ over the golf course, pay fast attention to the golf ball being hit. It seems to have some kind of shape on it…but it goes by quick!

11. Star Tours- As you work your way through the queue, search for a screen that portrays the silhouettes of many Star Wars characters. As one passes by, you may just notice some famous head gear.

12. it’s a small world- In the Africa room, be sure to look for some unique vines depicting a classic Hidden Mickey in a vibrant color.

13. Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin- While waiting in the queue, keep your eyes open for the depiction of a reappearing planet which hosts a rather familiar looking land formation.

And there you have it, my favorite Hidden Mickeys of Walt Disney World! If you are looking for more Hidden Mickeys to find while in the parks, be sure to check out the Hidden Mickey books by Steve Barrett sold in the parks and online. It is the most comprehensive list of all Hidden Mickeys ever created.

What is your favorite Hidden Mickey? Ever have trouble finding one? Let me know in the comments below, I would love to hear from you!

Caitlin Corsello was born and raised in New York. She graduated from Adelphi University with a Masters in Mental Health Counseling in 2012. Her love for Disney started as an infant and has continued to grow with family vacations to Disney parks almost every year since. She holds a particular interest in WDW’s parks and attractions, never passing up an opportunity to visit. She looks forward to continuing to explore and learn about all things Disney and to share that passion with readers.

Everybody loves hidden Mickeys! They are everywhere you turn on Disney property. Some are intentional and others are not. I personally love hunting for hidden Mickeys, even when I am not in Walt Disney World! These are some of my favorite hidden Mickeys.

Pavement Pandemonium
Location: Tomorrowland
Type of Mickey: Side Profile
Difficulty: 10

I tried finding this Hidden Mickey in August along with the rest of my family, but no luck. We searched for a long LONG time and left empty-handed. As soon as we settled back down in our home after the trip, I searched it on the Internet and found a picture of it. I was so shocked because we probably walked over it at least ten times when searching around the same area. But in our defense, it is pretty hard to see. Part of me wonders if this was intentional because it is SO HARD to find.

Ashes…Ashes…We All Fall Down…
Location: Tower of Terror
Type of Mickey: Full body
Difficulty: 3

Some people don’t classify this as a Hidden Mickey, but I do-and I love its back-story. In the Tower of Terror pre-show and on the ride, the little girl who goes into the elevator is holding a plush Mickey. Originally she was supposed to be holding something creepy and it would be kind of like foreshadowing, but she came on set with the stuffed Mickey. The director thought it was adorable so they let her keep it while they were filming instead of switching it out for the original plush figure.

Look Up!
Location: Mission: SPACE
Type of Mickey: Side profile
Difficulty: 5

This might seem just like an ordinary Hidden Mickey to some people, but to my family it is MY Hidden Mickey. It was during our August trip and we had been on a serious hidden Mickey hunt for about 3 days. Everywhere we went, we searched up and down for Hidden Mickeys. It was kind of like a contest: whoever found the most won. After exiting Mission: SPACE, we were in the gift shop, when I looked up into the painted galaxy above. “Look”, I exclaimed, “I found a Hidden Mickey!” It was pretty late at night, so we were the only ones in the gift shop besides the cashier and other Cast Members. “That is NOT a Hidden Mickey,” my dad retaliated. “It looks like an elephant – the nose is way too long. It’s coincidental.” It was basically that battle between my dad and I as we argued over if it was an official Hidden Mickey of not. After 15 minutes of bickering, my father approached the cashier and asked his opinion. He had NO idea what we were talking about (he had never even heard of a hidden Mickey). So we resorted back to arguing amongst ourselves. Then I remembered, most stores have Hidden Mickey books in them! I went back up to the cashier and borrowed the nearby book. I flipped through the pages and read the entry that exactly describes the Hidden Mickey. Therefore, we now call this specific Hidden Mickey “Makena’s Mickey” because I thought it was a Hidden Mickey when nobody else did.

Dude Looks Like A Lady
Location: Rock N Roller Coaster
Type of Mickey: Classic
Difficulty: 6

I didn’t realize this until I was browsing around Steve Barrett’s website. The mural hanging outside of the Rock N’ Roller coaster shows Aerosmith singing and a limo cruising under them. Steven Tyler’s shirt is white with black marks – or at least that’s what I have been thinking for the past 14 years. They are actually made up of little Mickeys! And as a bonus, there is a young boy in the limo wearing Mickey ears!

You can Fly! You Can Fly! You Can Fly!
Location: Anywhere!
Type of Mickey: Classic
Difficulty: 1

You might be thinking, “You can find this Mickey anywhere? Huh?”, but you really can! Google Earth is a tool used by adults to find directions and by younger kids to look at their own houses (oh who am I kidding, I still do that!). I personally enjoy looking at Disney World from above, or as I like to call it, Peter Pan’s view. If you head over to Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Google Earth, you will notice something unusual about Expedition Everest. That is because from above, it is a hidden Mickey! The mountain itself is the center, and pieces of the track create the ears (the part where you kind of go in a circle on the ride). A lot of people don’t know about this one, and I love telling people about it.

No Evil Thing Will
Location: World of Disney
Type of Mickey: Classic
Difficulty: 2

My favorite section of the World of Disney store in Downtown Disney is the villain room with the jewelry and watches. Each villain has an arm hanging from the walls to give the feel of evil to the room. One of these arms belongs to Cruella De Ville wearing her trademark her fur coat. Of course, the coat is made out of Dalmatians so it is white with black spots. Three of these spots come together to create the mouse himself.

As Mysterious as the Dark Side of the Moon
Location: The Land Pavilion
Type of Mickey: Profile
Difficulty: 10

This Mickey is located in the Garden Grill restaurant. It is REALLY hard to find without any guidance from a Cast Member. We were staring at the mural for a long time before we asked for assistance. Our waitress knew exactly what we were talking about and pointed it out to us. We still couldn’t find it, so she explained it like this “Between the eighth leaf of the fern and the ninth, are the top of his eyes [the round part, but not where his actual pupils are] and between the 9th and 10th leaf are his pupils. Between the 10th and 11th leaf is his nose.” Do you see it now? We were still not sure so she asked for our digital camera. She took a picture then zoomed in on the area we were supposed to be looking at. Three of the four of us finally saw it but not my mom – she still can’t find it. If you are still looking for this Mickey, don’t worry – it took me twenty minutes before I could see it!

RAWR!
Location: Dinoland U.S.A
Type of Mickey: Full body (Pin)
Difficulty: 8

Chester and Hester live to be creative and unique. They don’t fail to impress me whenever I see the statue made out of a bunch of random pieces of junk, like the dinosaur located near Triceratops Spin. One of the items is a Mickey pin, but not just any Mickey pin. After a Cast member has been working for Disney for 1 year, they receive a Steamboat Willie pin. This pin is on the spine of the dinosaur towards the top half. It is easier to see it with a camera that can zoom in rather than the naked eye.

Hidden Mickey hunting is a great addition to any Disney trip. Some are easy to find and some are very difficult. This is what makes it a fantastic activity for the whole family. Grab your Hidden Mickey book and make a plan of what you want to find before you leave home. (If you write the clues on a piece of paper, you can fold it in your pocket and not take the book everywhere you go.) Don’t give up – and no cheating by looking in the back of the book.

What inspired me to write this blog was that earlier this week my parents decided to tell us that there are (and have been for 4 months since we repainted) two hidden Mickeys in our living room. I found one, but I am not going to give out any more information because my brother might be reading this and it is a competition to see who can find both of them first. I have to admit – it has been hidden in a pretty hard area and I wouldn’t have noticed for years to come. This is just one of the many reasons why my parents deserve the “Parents of The Year” Award!

If you were a Hidden Mickey, where would you hide? I would love it if you would share your hidden Mickey stories with me.

This week’s “Where in the World?” picture is from Epcot to honor the 30th anniversary. Can you figure out where it is?

See ya REAL soon!

Hello and welcome to The WDW Radio Show – Your Walt Disney World Information Station. I am your host, Lou Mongello, and this is show #178 for the week of July 11, 2010.

Walt Disney’s “Florida Project” brought to Orlando the magic of Disneyland, and plans that would expand upon that idea to a working city and so much more. And while we all have heard the tales of the trips to the Florida swampland, you may never have heard the stories of some of Walt’s original plans for his second theme park. This week, we’ll look at The Walt Disney World That Almost Was with author Chad Emerson, and explore some of the untold stories of where in the world Walt Disney World almost came to be.

I’ll draw a name and randomly call a listener to play Fact or Fiction, where I’ll ask 10 true or false trivia questions about Walt Disney World to give them a chance to win some prizes.

I’ll play more of your voicemails and have a few announcements at the end of the show, so sit back, relax, and enjoy this week’s episode of the WDW Radio Show.

Thanks for listening! Be sure to tune in next week!

News and Rumors, Trip and Cruise recap with Deb Wills and Steve Barrett, Adventureland Challenge Finalists

Hello and welcome once again to The WDW Radio Show – Your Walt Disney World Information Station. I am your host, Lou Mongello and this is show #84 for the week of September 14, 2008.

I’ll kick off this week’s show with some news and rumors from Walt Disney World, and then I’ll take you on a brief trip back to Walt Disney World with me, as I look at some highlights from my recent trip. Not a day by day trip report per se, but more looking at a few experiences I had that you might not have known even exist in and out of the parks.

From there, I left the joys of a No Way Jose’ at Beaches and Cream and headed out onto the high seas for a special, 5-day cruise aboard the Disney Magic. In addition to a scheduled 2 days at Castaway Cay, this voyage was even more magical, as it was hosted by Deb Wills and Steve Barrett, and featured great events and one surprise after another. So I invited the hosts to join me this week to recap the cruise and talk about some of the magic on the Magic.

And the time has finally come – we are down to the final 3 in the Adventureland Challenge Contest, and the finalists join me on the show this week to answer a series of questions so YOU can help decide who will be crowned the Ultimate Adventurer and win the Grand Prize of the 6 day, VIP vacation for 4 to Walt Disney World.

There’s more at the end of the show, so sit back, relax, and enjoy this week’s episode of the WDW Radio Show.

Disney Book Reviews, Adventureland Hidden Mickeys, The BIG Announcement!

Welcome to the WDW Radio Show – your Walt Disney World Information Station. This is show #74 for the week of July 6, 2008. I am your host Lou Mongello, and thank you for tuning in once again. Happy Birthday America – At 232 years old, you still look GREAT to me.

We’ll start off this week’s show with another look at some of my favorite Disney books. George Taylor joins me as we focus on three titles that examine the art in architecture of the parks.

I’m still very much in an Adventureland mood, with the release of the next Audio Guide CD just days away, so I thought we’d look at some interesting and questionable Hidden Mickeys of Adventureland with Steve Barrett.

And speaking of Adventureland and the Guide, I have been telling you about the BIG announcement I have that ties into the release of the Guide. Well, the wait is finally over, and I’ll share the news with you before the end of the show.

So sit back, relax, and enjoy this week’s episode of the WDW Radio Show.

WDW news and rumor mill, Hidden Mickeys at the Seas with Steve Barrett, Afternoon Tea at the Garden View Tea Room, Listener emails

Welcome to the WDW Radio Show – your Walt Disney World Information Station. This is show #59 for the week of March 23, 2008. As always I am your host Lou Mongello, and thanks for taking time to tune in again this week.

I will begin this week with News coming out of Walt Disney World which includes information about some new Mickey ears that you can customize and design yourself, the Epcot Flower & Garden Festival, as well as news from the Studios and resorts. In the Walt Disney World Rumor Mill, I’ll talk about cars in the Magic Kingdom – and I’m talking about the attraction and not the movie, a new character you just might see walking (or rolling) around Disney’s Hollywood Studios, as well as some of the cast of characters that you might just see walking around during Star Wars Weekends this summer.

Steve Barrett, author of the Hidden Mickeys series of books will join me this week as we start a new series of themed Hidden Mickey hunts, and we’ll begin under the sea (literally) at the Seas pavilion in Epcot.

Listener Sarah Kelleth and I will take a look at yet another one of Walt Disney World’s Hidden Treasures and simple pleasures, as we one of the most unique dining experiences in all of Walt Disney World – afternoon tea at the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa’s Garden View Tea Room.

I’m way behind in answering your listener email, so I’ll respond to some of your questions, which include topics such as making reservations for 2009, Grand Gatherings, the clubs of Pleasure Island, DeVine, the Tiki Room and more.

So sit back, relax and enjoy this week’s episode of the WDW Radio Show.

You can email the show at lou@wdwradio.com or call the voicemail at 206-202-4WDW (4939). Visit the web site at wdwradio.com.

Le Cellier Steakhouse review, Fact or Fiction, Hidden Mickeys with Steve Barrett

Welcome to the WDW Radio Show – your Walt Disney World Information Station. This is Show #49 for the week of January 13, 2008. I’m your host Lou Mongello and by the time you hear this episode, I will have run, and hopefully completed my first – and possibly last – Walt Disney World Half Marathon.

Since I have to record and produce the show early this week, there won’t be any news or rumors, but I do have a few segments that I think you’re going to enjoy.

First, we take a detailed look at, and review one of Walt Disney World’s premier restaurants and prove that food in the parks is more than just burgers and fries, as Glenn Whelan and I take a trip to Canada in Epcot’s World Showcase and visit Le Cellier Steakhouse.

Next, young Cody Pepper joins me once again for a fun game of Walt Disney World – Fact or Fiction? Then Steve Barrett and I will talk about new Hidden Mickeys, some other hidden characters, hunting at the resorts, and then he asks for your help in determining whether some questionable ones fit the bill.

So lace up your sneakers, get ready, get set, and GO! enjoy this week’s episode of the WDW Radio Show.

Disney World and rumors, Hidden Mickeys, Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride, contest winner, an announcement, Hidden Treasure, someone who is making magic for others, your emails and so much more!

Welcome to the WDW Radio Show. This is Show #25 for the week of July 29, 2007. Thank you for tuning in once again.

We’ll start off this week as always with a lot News and Views from Walt Disney World, as well as our trip to the Walt Disney World Rumor Mill, which includes some rumored details about the Haunted Mansion refurb and upgrade.

Steve Barrett, author of the Hidden Mickeys series of books joins me on what will be a recurring segment on the show, where we talk about some new and interesting Hidden Mickeys, and ask for your help with some questionable ones as well.

It’s time to fire up the old Walt Disney World Wayback Machine once again, and this time Jeff and I visit an opening day extinct attraction that so many of us still miss and have fond memories of, and that is Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride.

Eric Hollister from GeoMouse.com will announce the winner to this week’s Walt Disney World Half Marathon Challenge, and Eric and Dan from MouseGuest.com join me as we talk about another of Walt Disney World’s Hidden Treasures

Because so much of “Why We Do What We Do” is about helping others, I’ll also introduce you to another friend of the show, Byron Hall, the PhatDisneyGeek, who will tell you about something he is doing to help make some magic for those that really need it.

I’ll also answer more of your emails on the air, and also make an announcement about the show, so sit back, relax and hope you enjoy this week’s episode of The WDW Radio Show.
