Hello and welcome to The WDW Radio Show – Your Walt Disney World Information Station. I am your host, Lou Mongello, and this is show #177 for the week of July 4, 2010. Happy Independence Day to everyone celebrating in the US and those who may be stationed or living overseas. I proudly dedicate this show to everyone who has ever sacrificed to ensure our continuing freedoms.

Captain EO, starring Michael Jackson, has returned to its home in Walt Disney World, and I had a chance to see the show just days before it opened to the public. This week, we’ll discuss its return, and talk with Disney executives, Imagineers and Guests and get their reactions as well. We’ll look at how the show compares to its 1986 debut and its possible future in Epcot.

I’ll open up the inbox again this week and answer more of your listener emails. Topics include the Nightmare Before Christmas Haunted Mansion overlay, some additional Haunted Mansion trivia, dining choices in Walt Disney World, Winter Summerland, Port Orleans, ticket upgrade options, comparing the Magic Kingdom resorts, and much more.

I’ll play more of your voicemails and have a few announcements at the end of the show, so sit back, relax, and enjoy this week’s episode of the WDW Radio Show.

You can email the show at lou@wdwradio.com or call the voicemail TOLL FREE at 888-703-2171.

Thanks for listening! Be sure to tune in next week!

Interview with Imagineer Eric Jacobson about the Hall of Presidents, Captain EO Wayback Machine/DSI: Disney Scene Investigation, Contest winner and new contest!

Hello and welcome to The WDW Radio Show – Your Walt Disney World Information Station. I am your host, Lou Mongello and this is show #126 for the week of July 5, 2009. Thank you for tuning in once again.

Happy 4th of July and my sincerest gratitude to everyone who continues to fight and sacrifice for our freedom.

With the opening of the latest refresh to the Hall of Presidents attraction in the Magic Kingdom, this week I have an exclusive interview with Eric Jacobson, Senior Vice President of Creative Development at Walt Disney Imagineering. One of the many talents behind the update, he discusses not only the attraction’s advances and changes, but his visit to the White House, meeting and recording President Obama’s speech, and so much more.

This week’s Wayback Machine takes us back to the 80’s when the King of Pop became a Disney character. With the recent passing of Michael Jackson, it’s only appropriate that we do a DSI: Disney Scene Investigation of Captain EO, the extinct Epcot attraction in which he was the title character. We’ll look at it’s origins, the incredible talents who brought it to life, it’s story, music and eventual departure from the parks.

I’ll announce the winner of our last “Where in the World Have You Heard This” contest, and give you new clues for this week’s contest for a chance to win a new WDW Radio shirt and more!

I’ll play more of your voicemails at the end of the show. So sit back, relax, and enjoy this week’s episode of the WDW Radio Show.

You can email the show at lou@wdwradio.com or call the voicemail TOLL FREE at 888-703-2171.

Thanks for listening! Be sure to tune in next week!

From Lou Mongello: On the day that this show went live, a tragic accident involving two monorails took place in Walt Disney World around 2:00 am on the morning of July 5. Tragically, a Cast Member pilot lost his life in the accident and at the time of the publication of this show, there were no reported injuries to the few guests on board.

As no official information has been released as yet, I will not comment on any other reports, nor speculate at this time. I spent a great deal of time agonizing over just how to deal with this most appropiately on the show, and decided not to comment on it during this episode. I am deeply saddened by this news, and for a number of reasons, even after recording a segment for the show, felt it best to not air it.

What I will do, however, is try and allay any fears about the safety of the monorail system by saying that since the introduction of the Mark VI monorails in 1989, there have been zero accidents involving any train collisions, and this is the first and only fatal accident in its almost 38-year history.

More importantly, I want to give my heartfelt condolences and prayers to the family of the Cast Member involved, 21-year old Austin Wuenneberg, as well as his friends and co-workers in Walt Disney World.

Glenn Whelan (from Passamaquoddy) just launched (drum roll please):

The Pretty Good Movie Ride web site!

In addition to painstaking recreations of ALL incarnations of the Great Movie Ride finale (scene by scene, frame by frame, from the DVDs), he also created the Pretty Good Movie Ride montage!

Following the exact same layout and format as the original finale montage, Glenn does an AMAZING job of putting together “his own” version with classic clips from some “pretty good” movies!

This is a MUST SEE (more than once!) so check it out (and share the link!)

Bravo, Glenn!! Impressive… MOST impressive!!!
