So this week, I want to share with you a conversation I had with a someone who Walt Disney called an “Idea Man” – Disney Legend Al Konetzni. In his nearly 30 years with the company, he developed countless ideas for toys, clothing, stationery, greeting cards, jewelry and more, featuring beloved Disney characters, including the famous Pez Mickey and Mickey Mouse lunchbox. Al shares his personal journey, including working with Walt, and advice for those looking to become an artist for Disney.

I’ll have the answer to our last Walt Disney World Trivia Question of the Week, and pose a new challenge for your chance to win a Disney prize package.

Hello and welcome to The WDW Radio Show – Your Walt Disney World Information Station. I am your host, Lou Mongello, and this is show #219 for the week of April 24, 2011.

Walt Disney once said that he hoped that we don’t lose sight of one thing – that it was all started by a mouse. This week, we’ll remember just that fact, as I have two segments that both involve Mickey Mouse.

First, we’ll venture into the Magic Kingdom, and explore not an attraction, land, shop or show, but a single location. In fact, a single statute. In this week’s DSI: Disney Scene Investigation, we will look at the history and story behind the iconic Partners statue of Walt and Mickey, located in the central hub.

The legacy of, and bond between Walt and Mickey goes far beyond one of simply artist and creation. In fact, Walt actually lent his voice to his most famous work as far back as 1929. Over the years, Walt passed that torch to other men who became the voice of Mickey, and this week, I have a chance to talk with Bret Iwan, the man, who eighty years after Mickey spoke his first words on screen, took over that role of a lifetime. We’ll talk about his personal story of becoming the voice of Mickey, the legacy, and the future.
