Walt Disney World Resort celebrated the grand opening of New Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom on December 6, as classic Disney movies The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast and Dumbo come to life in the magic Kingdom’s largest expansion ever.

New Fantasyland consists of the Enchanted Forest and Storybook Circus, and includes many new attractions: Under the Sea – Journey of the Little Mermaid, Enchanted Tales with Belle, from “Beauty and the Beast” Be Our Guest Restaurant, Dumbo, the Flying Elephant, The Barnstormer Featuring the Great Goofini, and Pete’s Silly Sideshow meet and greet, featuring Minnie Mouse, Daisy Duck, Goofy and Donald Duck.

Walt Disney Imagineers have truly brought to life beloved Disney stories and magical places, putting guests in the middle of Disney classics and new favorites

Reminder About Test Track, and more

It’s a BUSY time around the Vacation Kingdom of the World, so let’s dive right into another edition of the WDW Radio Newswire…

Guests itching to get a first-hand look at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort will be elated with this first bit of news. The Finding Nemo wing will still be opening up on Thursday May 31st as was previously announced. HOWEVER  the resort’s other three wings: Cars, Lion King, and The Little Mermaid, will all be opening up ahead of schedule! The Cars section will now take the checkered flag on Monday June 18th, six weeks ahead of the previous target date of Tuesday July 31st. And the Circle of Life will begin accepting guests seven weeks earlier than expected in the Lion King section, as that wing will now be opening up on Friday August 10th as opposed to the previously anticipated date of Sunday September 30th. Rounding out the quartet is The Little Mermaid section, which will now be a “part of our World” on Saturday September 15th instead of Monday December 31st. The Finding Nemo, Cars, and Lion King sections all feature family suites that can sleep six, and The Little Mermaid section is comprised of traditional four person value rooms.

Now let’s head into the Parks for some exciting news out of Magic Kingdom. It seems as if portions of Storybook Circus have begun to welcome in Guests a little bit ahead of the official opening date! Select attractions are now “soft open,” including the newest of the two spinners at Dumbo the Flying Elephant, Fantasyland Train Station, and The Barnstormer featuring The Great Goofini. The official opening date for Storybook Circus is slated for Saturday March 31st, so we’ll have to wait and see if the rest of the land will be opening up shop on that day or not.

For more news out of Magic Kingdom, let’s head to Main Street USA, where Mr. and Mrs. Easter Bunny are now making regular appearances. The duo can be found at their usual spot this time of year, in the garden area just outside City Hall.

Before we Park Hop out of the Magic Kingdom, there’s one more bit of news to report. I’ve been holding off on this one because it’s going to personally pain me to see it drift off into the realm of extinction. But everyone already knew it was an unfortunate inevitability, and now the date’s official. Fantasyland will be losing one of the Park’s opening day attractions on Thursday May 30th, as Snow White’s Scary Adventures is scheduled to close its doors forever at the conclusion of the evening to make room for the new meet and greet location: Princess Fairytale Hall. First we lose Toad, now Snow White. What’s next, the Skyway? Oh wait…

Okay, let’s brighten up the somber mood with some major news out of Epcot Center. It seems as if there will be an all-new interactive gaming experience around World Showcase this summer starring Agent P from Phineas and Ferb! The game, entitled “Agent P’s World Showcase Adventure,” will be replacing the Kim Possible interactive game which had been offered at EPCOT since January of 2009. The majority of the Countries around World Showcase will be participating in the new interactive experience, with Morocco, Italy, Canada, and The American Adventure being the only four exceptions.

Our final piece of news today also comes from EPCOT, and this one is just a little reminder about Test Track. The attraction is slated for a substantial closure, which is set to begin in April and conclude sometime this autumn. So if you want to see the attraction one more time before its overhaul, you’ve only got a few weeks left to do so!

There’s breaking news out of Storybook Circus, and the 2012 Flower & Garden Festival just kicked off at Epcot Center, so it’s time to dive into the latest edition of the WDW Radio Newswire…..

Unfortunately, we’re gonna have to wait a few more weeks to see an elephant fly again in the Magic Kingdom. The Double Dumbo’s won’t be taking flight until Saturday March 31st, nearly three weeks later than the previously anticipated opening date of Monday March 12th. Fantasyland Train Station, Casey Jr. Roundhouse, and the Great Goofini kids coaster were originally scheduled to make their debuts on March 12th along with Dumbo, but they are all expected to open up on March 31st now as well.

For more news out of the Magic Kingdom, let’s head over to Main Street USA, where exterior refurb work has just about wrapped up on Center Street. Buildings on Center Street have been covered in decorative scrims since the beginning of October, so this will put the total refurb time at just under five months. There is still one building on Center Street that remains under tarps, but work is expected to be completed on that final section very soon.

Now let’s Park Hop from the Magic Kingdom over to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, where there is a small bit of news to report on Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular. Indy will be going on a brief two-day hiatus later this month, as there will be no performances of the stunt show on Saturday March 10th or Sunday March 11th. But fear not; as Dr. Jones will be back in action on Monday March 12th.

Shifting gears, let’s “dive” into a little Water Park news. The re-opening date for Typhoon Lagoon is fast approaching. The Lagoon will return to full operation in a little over a week’s time, as the Park is set to open back up on Sunday March 18th. Typhoon Lagoon has been closed since Sunday December 4th for its annual refurbishment.

For our final bit of news today, let’s head back into the Parks, where the 2012 International Flower & Garden Festival is now in full swing over at EPCOT. The event kicked off on Wednesday March 7th, and things will run throughout the Spring, with an end date scheduled for Sunday May 20th. This will be the 19th incarnation of the festival, as the first event took place back in 1994. Over 100 topiaries will be on display this year, and the usual slate of events are back on the docket, including presentations by HGTV and DIY network personalities, special displays like Bambi’s Butterfly House and the English Tea Garden, and of course, the Flower Power Concert Series at the America Gardens Theatre. And much to my delight, the Wonders of Life pavilion will once again be opening its doors to serve as the Festival Center (open daily from 10am-5pm).
