‘Cannibals’ round on Disney film

Dominica’s government has said the US studio is planning to use the tiny island as a location.

Several hundred Dominicans have applied to be extras, including some Caribs.

Carib chief Charles Williams said recent discussions with Disney producers revealed “there is a strong element of cannibalism in the script which cannot be removed”.

He said the Caribs’ ancestors “stood up against early European conquerors and because they stood up … we were labelled savages and cannibals up to today. This cannot be perpetuated in movies.”
