The Town That Disney Built: Celebration, Florida

It is also commonly known as the town that Disney built and many people refer to it as Walt Disney´s dream community in which to work, live, and play.

My family and I have been residents of Celebration, FL for five years now. Many people think of it as a `Leave It to Beaver´ type community and to many people it is. Some prime examples of this would be the white picket fences and the perfectly landscaped lawns. There are many unique things to Celebration such as the unique vehicles, the different festivities held on weekends and the unique houses. It is a great place to live.

Many people in Celebration drive NEVs. What is a NEV? It is a Neighborhood Environmental Vehicle. To many people they look like a golf-cart, and they help you get around the community in a mini-vehicle. Celebration has plenty of these and even has a store downtown that sells them. They come in a variety of colors and although their top speed is just over twenty-five, they offer a convenient way for parents to pick their kids up from school, run to Market Street, or drive to work if they work inside Celebration. However, they can only be driven on Celebration Streets, so you won´t see them outside of town. I believe that they are really part of Walt´s dream of a perfect community. They are fun and they seem almost like a car of the future since they are electrical.

Celebration also holds a variety of festivities on weekends. They hold the Great American Pie Fest every April which is on the Food Network. That weekend holds all you can eat pie for a low admission price. There are more types of pie you can imagine from mango to key lime to just the normal apple to cherry, and many innovative types. They also hold Pie contests and other fun for the whole family. They also hold `A Taste of Celebration´ on weekends where the restaurants have stands outside where people can simply try out the food and experience the town a bit. Every Sunday from September until May, Celebration holds a Farmer´s Market from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. with many different vendors selling crafts, produce, and many different types of food.

Not only does Celebration have great festivals, it has unique houses. You won´t see the same color house next to each other because oddly enough, there are rules against that; however, it leads to a great looking community.Only in Celebration will you find street lights in the alley. Lighted pathways throughout the woods that make you feel safe. The community has trails through wooded shady areas where you can go for a walk and really feel like you are escaping.

Celebration could possibly be Walt Disney´s dream community in which to work, live, and play.It is an amazing community, and I definitely recommend it to anyone who is looking for a place to live. There are many different aspects to the community, and I hope to touch more on all of them as I write. It is the dream place to live… if you can get used to all the white picket fences.
