They came from Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania (Delaware and Maryland had last minute cancelations – we missed you, ladies!)
They sat in traffic, got lost, and eventually all converged on Long Island.
They worked until 1 a.m. in the morning and started again at 9 a.m. and kept going until well after 10 p.m. And even put in a few more hours the next morning before getting back in cars to make 5, 6, 7 or more hour drives home (hopefully avoiding the traffic around Shea Stadium and the rain storms).
Sounds like fun, you say? You bet!
This weekend was the Dream Team Project Auction Wrapping Weekend. What the heck is a wrapping weekend? It’s when we take all those bags and boxes of Disney merchandise that have been accumulating here for months and turn them into the beautiful theme baskets you will see at the Auction at MagicMeets. This year’s volunteers, who braved the gas prices and the toll bridges and the traffic jams, were Tracy, April, Janet, Meg, Lori, and Lou â€the Cabana Boy†Mongello and family (and no, we’re not going to explain that one). I couldn’t have asked for a finer team! Tracy, April, Janet and Lou had been through last year’s wrapfest; Meg and Lori jumped in with both feet. Together we worked our way through the list of 110 auction lots: sorting, inspecting, cross-referencing, double checking, photographing, arranging, wrapping, tagging, and finally boxing them for transport to Pennsylvania in just under 3 weeks time.
So instead of having bags and bags and bags (I have so many Disney plastic bags now!), my basement looks like a Westy Storage Facility, everything in the nice white boxes with the cute little dog on them.
We worked, and ate, and worked, and had a drink, and worked, and ate, and worked. And laughed – oh, how we laughed!Lou may have learned a valuable lesson for podcasters: trying to record with 6 women who have been in a basement for 13 hours is not a way to get something useable in one take. Or two. Or half a dozen. Heaven knows just what is going to make it onto today’s podcast, but thank goodness it wasn’t a video version!
There’s still a lot of work to be done, and a short time to do it all in, but after this I’m more excited than before about all the wonderful items we’ll be auctioning off. Previews will start on July 1st: I’ll be posting several items a day on the DisneyWorldTrivia.com forums. There will be a second thread for “MagicMeets/Auction Chatter†where you can comment on your favorite lots, or just share your thoughts and excitement about the upcoming MagicMeets events.
Many, many, many thanks to the volunteers this weekend! You gals (and Lou) rock! A personal thanks to my DH, who kept the troops fed and the sink cleared and couldn’t have been a better support.
