Verizon and Disney Team to Bring New Experiences to Your Phone

As heard on The WDW Radio Show, show #93, November 16, 2008.

In exciting news from Walt Disney World this week, Disney announced an alliance with cell phone provider Verizon to bring new experiences to Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort guests – right on their wireless phones.

This multi-year relationship will enhance the guest experience like never before, not just IN the parks, but even before Guests arrive! Guests will be able to have a personal tour guide right in their wireless phones along with other new services at the parks. Imagine receiving up-to-the- minute tips on special Park activities with just the touch of a button or receiving a call from Buzz Lightyear welcoming you to the Magic Kingdom.

The services which are currently planned range from the practical and helpful to fun and entertaining.

Verizon Wireless customers can download an exclusive mobile application that will give them easy access to information such as show locations, restaurant info, and the where their favorite Disney characters can be found anywhere inside the Parks. They will also be able to get real-time attraction wait-times, a big plus for those trying to decide if it’s worth a trek from Big Thunder Mountain to Space Mountain. For fun, there will be mobile games, the ability to receive messages from characters, and more.

Now, if you aren’t a Verizon wireless customer and you are staring at your iPhone like it’s an expensive brick, have no fear. Verizon Wireless customers will have exclusive access to an array of enhanced features, but Disney and Verizon assure us that some information such as dining locations and show times will be available to all Guests, regardless of their wireless company.

I think this is a phenomenal idea and once again Disney is on the leading edge of offering these services. I am particularly happy that it will be accessible to ALL cell phones and carriers on some level, and think this will have a HUGE, positive impact on the Guest experience. Having the wait and show times available instantly on your phone will literally change the way some people can tour the parks. Look for more details early next year as the companies expect to add a suite of services and functionalities to help guests at Disney Parks have the most magical experience.
