shopDisney: Off-Site Authentic Disney Merchandise and Discounted!

shopDisney is a bi-weekly blog that will focus on Disney merchandise and products sold in the parks, in Disney stores, and in other retail markets.  We will explore product reviews, affordability, and to whom the products are marketed.  Like any other good product review, we will conclude with a rating scale for several different key components: price, age group, and whether the product is a “must have.”

While it is very rare that I want to visit any off-site location while on vacation to Walt Disney World, there is one place that I now feel obligated (okay, maybe not) to visit.  If you have a vehicle or someone local willing to drive you, and love shopping, you should drive over to the Orlando Premium Outlets, located right off of I-4.  Insiders tip:  Do NOT wait until the afternoon or evening to visit this shopping venue.  I have been there at least twice during that time period and the parking and crowds are terrible.  However, if you can get there when stores open or within a few hours, and get your shopping done, you shouldn’t have any problems.Disney's Character Warehouse Exterior

Now of course, the only store that I am really going to visit at the outlet mall (well, I might have peeked into the Coach Store) is a Disney outlet store called Disney’s Character Warehouse.  It doesn’t look like much of a store from the outside, but when you walk in and begin looking at the products, you will realize that it holds more than you would think.

I remember going to this store at least three times, and its merchandise changes often due to product turnover in the actual parks.  It would be understandable that there could be a time when the products might not be as good as other times, especially during the holiday season, but when I was there, everything looked recent.  Upon looking at most of the merchandise throughout the store, I could not tell if they were being sold there because they were defective or if they were just products that were no longer being sold in the parks.  I did pick up a runDisney shirt and the logo on the shirt was printed a little bit off center, but it was nothing that would make me not buy it.

Here are a couple of items that I saw while shopping and the price comparison to what they were originally sold for on property:

Minnie Zip-up:

Minnie Zip-upI did feature this product in my blog several months ago when I was talking about the fashion and accessories in the parks for women.  I think this is a very cute style for a jacket and have often had it in my basket to purchase before I found another item I loved a little more!

On property, this jacket originally sold for $59.95; however, at the outlet store, it was priced at $29.99.  That isa savings of  almost $30!  Again, I looked closely at this product and didn’t see any immediate defects.

“it’s a small world” postcards:

This cute little set of 14 postcards in a little tin retailed for $19.95 while in the parks, in the outlet store it was selling for $13.99.

Mickey and Minnie Tree Skirt:

I really love this product, mainly because we own the stockings that match it, and I have often thought about buying this to complete our set.  However, the price has been a little high for a decoration that I will use for less than 1 month out of the year, so we always passed on the purchase.

Mickey and Minnie treeskirt

The price of this product when selling in a store on property was $79.95 and in the Disney outlet it was marked down to $27.99!!  While I didn’t purchase it, that is an amazing price cut for a product that was still very much in season (remember I was shopping here during Thanksgiving week).

I hope you have all enjoyed this off-property look at a Disney branded outlet and that you all have the opportunity to do some shopping there.  I love looking for ways to save on Disney merchandise, and I figure that if I can save some money, I might be able to purchase more!  If you have ever visited this store, let me know what you think about products you saw there or even purchased.  I would love to know if there were issues you observed in any of their products or if they were exactly what you expected, and remember that you can always look offsite and shop using your Disney-style!
