Disney’s Animal Kingdom® Theme Park (DAK) is many, many things. But remember—it’s nahtazu! (“Not a zoo!”) Covering 500 acres, with seven themed areas, and home to more than 1,700 animals across 250 species, the park reflects Disney’s dedication to animal care and conservation. Sure, DAK has thrills and attractions, and will soon have an Avatar-themed land, but when was the last time you slowed down to stop, look, and learn about the animals?
Here are a few of our favorites!

Follow the tree-covered path of the Maharajah Jungle Trek, and you might see Tigger smile for the camera.

On the Pangani Forest Exploration Trail ®, Kerchak strikes a defiant pose.
What do you suppose he’s thinking?

In the DAK aviary, we found a pink flamingo that would be perfect for a croquet match between Alice and the Queen of Hearts.

Simba wishes everyone Hakuna Matata! as they pass by in their open-air vehicle on Kilimanjaro Safaris®.
