The Inside Jokes of Walt Disney World: Disney’s Animated Films

With Big Hero 6 coming out this week, I’ve thinking a lot about Disney’s animated films.  Most of the time, we try to find hidden jokes and references to the movies in the theme parks, but, the reverse has happened a few times as well.

For example, in The Lion King, when Scar takes over Pride Rock, all seems hopeless. He even forces Zazu to sing for him. But, when Scar asks for a happier song, Zazu may have crossed the line.

A few years later, Disney released Hercules, based on the mythical stories of the demi-god by the same name.  In one scene, Meg, tries to convince herself that she isn’t falling in love with Hercules. She sings her song while strolling through a fountain area full of statues and is joined by the Muses. At one point, she walks past them as they take the form of singing busts, which should give you a clue as to what they are referencing.

The last inside joke is in the vastly underrated movie, Meet the Robinsons.  In it, a boy named Wilbur takes a trip to the future. During his first trip through town he sees many unusual things, like people using large bubbles for transportation, but it all culminates to this:

What’s your favorite Disney animated movie and will you be going out this weekend to see Big Hero 6?

Chris grew up during the Disney renaissance of animation and took his first trip to Disney World when he was ten. Even though he has loved Disney his whole life, his obsession didn’t start until he began planning a trip for his honeymoon. Right now, his primary job (at least the one that doesn’t pay the bills) is to indoctrinate his daughter with his love of Disney while at the same time convincing his wife to move to Orlando so he can become a tour guide in the parks.
