Lou’s Inbox – The Hot Italian Sandwich

“Hi Lou, just wondering if you have seen the Hot Italian Sandwich they use to have at Pizzafari anywhere? That sandwich was the bomb! Thanks, Michelle.”

Hi, Michelle! Thank you so much for taking the time to listen to the WDW Radio Show and for your question.  My name is Kendall, and I am the WDW Radio Blog editor, and I previously wrote the “I Have a Craving” series for the Blog.  During that time, I became adept at scouring Walt Disney World menus in search of certain ingredients, favorite items and more.

Admittedly, I never had the sandwich to which you are referring, but through research, I have learned that it was piled-high ham, turkey and provolone with tomato, pesto and the key ingredient, lettuce that had been tossed with a Caesar-style dressing. It appears that it was served on some type of white roll with a good crust, perhaps ciabatta .

A thorough search of the WDW menus has lead me to believe that this exact sandwich no longer exists on Disney property.  While there is a “Hot Italian Sandwich” listed on the menu for World Premiere Food Court at Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort, it is described as “Ham, Salami, and Pepperoni toasted with Provolone served with House-made Chips and Side Salad.”  Earl of Sandwich at Disney Springs also has a sandwich on its menu known simply as the “Italian,” but it sounds more like a classic Italian-style deli sandwich and is described as “Salami, Capicola, Ham, Mortadella, Mozzarella, Roma Tomato and Italian Seasoning with Italian Dressing.”

While the exact sandwich you are looking for does not exist anymore, now that you know the ingredients, you could try making it at home. You could even save it for a day when you need a little Walt Disney World magic!
