June is usually the time of year we receive massive video game announcements at E3, the Electronics Entertainment Expo. Sadly the pandemic had its own plans this year. The good news is many companies are still making headlines by holding virtual events. Between previously announced games and newly revealed titles, multiple Disney games are on the horizon.
Star Wars Vader Immortal (PS4 via PlayStation VR, August 25)
Previously exclusive to Oculus VR headsets, Vader Immortal on PS VR collects all three episodes that tell an original Star Wars story along with the Lightsaber Dojo challenge mode. There is no exact release date yet other than sometime this summer.
Marvel’s Avengers (PS4, Xbox One, PC, September 4, PS5 and Xbox Series X TBD)
Announced seemingly a lifetime ago, Avengers is an action/adventure game based around the titular group of superheroes. Playable either solo or with up to 3 other players, the wait is almost over as it releases September 4 for current generation systems and PC. A free upgrade to next-gen versions will be available for those who buy a PS5 or Xbox Series X.
Star Wars Squadrons (PS4, Xbox One, PC, October 2
Following a lineage of great Star Wars space combat games (Think X-Wing, TIE Fighter) is an all new first person cockpit view flight game. Choose between 5 on 5 online Multiplayer or a single player story mode set in the early years after Return of the Jedi. VR support is included on PS4 and PC.
LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga (PS4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, October 20)
Star Wars returns to the world of LEGO games for the 5th time. This new outing encompasses all 9 movies. Featuring voice acting and over 500 playable characters this will with out a doubt be the most feature packed LEGO Star Wars game yet.
EDIT: LEGO Star Wars was just pushed back to Spring of 2021, but will come to next gen platforms- Zack
Spider-Man: Miles Morales (PS5 Holiday 2020)
As a follow-up to the PS4 Spider-Man, Miles Morales has some pretty big shoes to fill. This PS5 exclusive will highlight new system features including ray-tracing and near instant load times. Don’t expect this title to be as long as the 2018 Spider-man though. Think of it as a standalone expansion à la Uncharted Lost Legacy, or Wolfenstein: The Old Blood.
Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory (Switch, PS4, Xbox One, Late 2020)
Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory is the first rhythm game in the Kingdom Hearts series. Also perhaps the first spin-off with a straight-forward title (seriously) While this may not be the Kingdom Hearts game Switch owners were asking for it will be the first to come to Nintendo’s hybrid console.
That about does it for Disney games this year. This may be a pretty beefy lineup so far but there is a chance an Epic Mickey remaster could also be coming.
