Run, Princess, Run!

Have you ever had an itch to run 13.1 miles for fun at the Most Magical Place on Earth???

So, I decided to do this crazy thing where I will sign up and run the 2022 Princess Half Marathon. Now, I have run the Princess Half and a few other WDW Half Marathons before — the last one was Princess in 2014 — so it’s been a minute.

I wish I could tell you that in the interim I kept running and stayed in amazing shape, end of post. That’s not exactly what happened. So truthfully, I wasn’t in great shape to begin with and drastically undertrained for Princess 2014. Since then I had a baby in 2015 and steadily gained weight, think Baymax kind of fluffy… Fast forward to February 2021 and I had gastric bypass surgery. This is not the right path for everyone, but so far it seems to be the right path for me.

Prior to surgery I decided that I had two goals:

1. To participate in a triathlon

2. Train and run the Princess 2022 Half, while feeling good at the end and have a time I am proud of.

To achieve the second goal I have signed up for the WDW Running Team and I have decided to take the Clubhouse, my friends and family, along for the ride. I hope that this will inspire some of you to jump out of your comfort zone and do something that scares you (more the blogging than the actual half). I also hope that this will help keep me accountable to my fitness goals as I share with you the trials and triumphs of training for a half. If you are training for something, please let me know in the comments and I will do my best to help keep you accountable and most importantly cheer you on!

Princess Log Entry 1:

If you read that in a Star Trek voice, you are my people. So, I have been cleared by my doc to exercise — time to start working toward that Princess goal! I am not even sure where to begin…
My co-worker suggested this program she had used (ugh, everyone has a program…).  I trust her judgement though and she looks fantastic, so this seems like a good place to start. This program is very positive and does full body workouts via Facebook (yay no gym!). Since I am convinced some of my muscles have atrophied, a positive environment and working out at home is very appealing. As a bonus, my husband agreed to do this with me. I wonder if I can get him to run Princess with me?? He would look cute dressed as a princess (Shout out to the Princess Men)!!
So this program is an 8-week challenge and we are about half way through. Since starting I am feeling stronger, losing some weight and eating better. We also bought a Peloton (I am still not 100% sure how to use it) but the classes seem fun and challenging. I feel like I am off to a good start with training. I know the actual running will come soon, but for now I am content with building up my endurance and cross training.
Find me on Peloton — diznypelotonsar.
Will you be joining the WDW running team and joining this group of crazies?? #wdwradio #wdwradiorunningteam #choosethegood

My name is Sarah Niswender and I have WDW in my veins, going to the parks several times per year as early as age 2. Growing up in SoFla I was fortunate enough to have a lifelong Disney education, thanks to my mother (and hardworking father)! I am now passing the love for everything Disney along to my daughter and somewhat reluctant husband. I have participated in several runDisney events and am looking forward to participating as a part of the WDWRadio running team. See you on Main Street USA!
