It is not surprising that Ratatouille, a tail (pardon the pun) of a humble rat rising to success in the center of French artisanal cuisine – with the beautiful setting and music and yes, of course, the food – would spark such great inspiration.
Chef Gusteau says, “Anyone can cook.” I’m sure many of you are thinking of a few people in particular that simply cannot cook. Maybe it’s you; who knows. No, not everyone can cook. But a rat can. Yes, a rat who walks on two feet, washes his hands, and sees a symphony in his mind when flavors combine, cooks his way to the top in Paris, France no less!
Remy (voiced by Patton Oswalt) doesn’t look like other cooks, and he doesn’t act like other rats. He is, however, accepted and supported for what he does, his ambitions, and his choices. Not by everyone and not immediately, but the support and acceptance he receives from his friends and family plays a major part between success and failure.
Remy is a cook; a little chef. He is a naturally talented, passionate artist who creates masterpieces. It has nothing to do with his appearance, his origins, or his upbringing. If we have a talent, a skill, a passion, an ambition, or anything in between, we can find success.
Surround yourself with support! And always remember that if a rat can cook, you can accomplish your goals despite the “standard circumstances for success”.
Comment on this article in the Facebook group with your passions of artistry that can inspire others! I leave you now with the wise words of Gusteau’s critic Anton Ego about the spirit of Ratatouille, and artistry as a whole.
“In the past, I have made no secret of my disdain for Chef Gusteau’s famous motto, ‘Anyone can cook.’ But I realize only now do I truly understand what he meant. Not anyone can become a great artist, but a great artist can come from anywhere.”

My name is Tyler. I’m 24 years old and I live in Georgia with my wife, Ragan. I am a huge fan of the Disney parks after reigniting my childhood love of Disney on a trip in which I proposed! Since that 2017 trip, we have been back to our home away from home several times, and like many of you, we’re always in the pre-planning stage of a Disney vacation whether it happens or not. I have been a huge fan of Marvel and Star Wars my entire life on a very deep and highly invested level, and I hope my love and passion for these properties (as well as all Disney storytelling on and off the screen) comes through.
