Mickey Mural Debuts at Disney Springs

Thinking of Disney Springs evokes images of a lively, vibrant atmosphere full of good eats, superior shopping, and unique fun around every turn. Disney Springs’ newest artistic addition, “Proud Original,” by Dom Corona, vibes right in line with the creative culture of the entertainment area.

“Proud Original” is a painted mural, which features a colorful rendition of Mickey Mouse – capped with a rainbow-gradated Sorcerer hat, matching his classic shorts. Mickey poses gleefully with a wink and two hands poised into peace signs against a lilac background.

“There’s a lot of ‘me’ in this mural,” artist Dom Corona explained. “Sorcerer Mickey was the first Mickey I met and drew as a child, so it only felt right to bring him along for this journey. I’m also guilty of a peace sign or two and a wink for lots of my photos. Oh, and Pride – the most inspiring part!”

Corona, a self-taught artist, is a new addition to the creative group of Disney Fine Artists. In 2021, Corona was invited to be a part of the Disney Creators Lab, which led to opportunities within the Walt Disney Company.

Corona’s social media presence showcases his painting practice, where his love of Disney remains evident.

Corona stated, “I input what inspires me—my output is usually Mickey Mouse.”

This passion is credited to Corona’s first trip to Walt Disney World, where Corona doodled a Mickey Mouse in his autograph book. During a later trip to the parks, an artist sketched Donald Duck, signing “To Dominick, future Disney artist,” manifesting into Corona’s future.

Today, Corona inspires young and future artists with his own Disney artwork as they pass through Disney Springs.

Corona encourages aspiring artists, “Keep creating! Try different styles and mediums! And don’t listen to your high school art teacher when they tell you to stop painting Disney characters!”

“Proud Original” is a part of Disney Springs Art Walk: A Canvas of Expression. Corona’s mural is located near Disney Springs Lost and Found and the bus drop-off area.
