Sometimes Disney announces something that makes me feel like a kid again—leaning forward, eyes wide, already imagining the sights, sounds, and smells before I’ve even stepped inside. The newest addition to Magic Kingdom is one of those moments.
On August 29, 2025, The Beak & Barrel Tavern will open its creaky wooden doors in Adventureland… and yes, I am ready to join the crew.
The Disney Parks Blog recently shared the first images and the backstory of this swashbuckling lounge , and I want to take you behind the scenes of the legend—and into the spaces we’ll all be exploring soon.
A Tavern Born of Pirate Lore
This isn’t just a bar. It’s a story—woven into the very planks of the place.
The tale goes that The Beak & Barrel was founded by the fearless Captain Meridian “Merry” Goldwyn. Her trusted quartermaster? A parrot named Rummy, whose feathers have seen more ports than most pirates have tankards. If Rummy looks familiar, that’s because his design tips its tricorn hat to the Barker Bird who once greeted guests outside Pirates of the Caribbean.
I love that Imagineering didn’t just theme a space—they built a history for it. Every scratch on the tables, every knotted rope, feels like it has a story to tell.
Two Rooms, Endless Stories
Step into The Mess, a gathering spot with weathered communal tables, lantern light, and shelves that look like they were salvaged from a wrecked galleon. You can almost hear the sea shanties.
Or wander into The Captain’s Quarters, where the fireplace flickers and nautical artifacts line the walls. This is the kind of place where you linger… but remember, sessions are limited to 45 minutes , so you’ll want to soak in every detail while you can.
First-of-Its-Kind for Magic Kingdom
The Beak & Barrel marks a historic shift—it’s the first dedicated in-park lounge at Magic Kingdom. There’s a two-drink limit per adult, but this space is designed for everyone. Kids and non-drinkers will find pirate-themed mocktails like the Treasure Trove alongside the adult-only Salty Seas mARRRgarita and Siren’s Whisper.
Reservations open August 14 in the My Disney Experience app (and yes, I’ll be refreshing right alongside you).
Why I’m Excited
We’ve seen Disney bring story to the table before—think Skipper Canteen or Oga’s Cantina—but this one feels personal to Adventureland. It’s right next to Pirates of the Caribbean, it honors an old park icon, and it gives us a new space to share with friends, make memories, and maybe swap a tall tale or two.
And while I can’t promise Rummy will remember your name… you might be able to buy a Rummy for your own.
