The Hotel One Mile from Walt Disney World That Almost Nobody Talks About
Most people planning a Walt Disney World vacation spend a lot of time thinking about where they are going to stay – and that makes sense, because where you stay shapes the entire tone of your trip. The Disney resorts are varied and incredible. The Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin, the Four Seasons, and a handful of other nearby options all have their merits.
But there is a hotel sitting one mile from Walt Disney World, and just steps from Disney’s Animal Kingdom, that almost nobody talks about. Lou has been coming to Walt Disney World for decades, has lived in the Orlando area, and travels constantly – and he had never heard of this place until he was invited to come experience it himself.
It is called ette Hotel. And before going any further – this is not a sponsored segment. It is not a commercial. This is Lou’s honest, firsthand review after spending the night touring the property, talking with the people who run it, and sitting down to one of the best meals he’s had in a very long time – which was broadcast live on Facebook and YouTube.
The timing matters too. Lou had just landed back home from Shanghai, Hong Kong, and a layover in Japan – the kind of jet lag where your body genuinely has no idea what day, time zone, or meal it is supposed to be eating. Just a couple of days after touching down, before he’d fully shaken any of that off, he checked into ette Hotel – more by accident than by design. It turned out to be exactly the reset he needed. And his bar was not low going in – he had just come from some of the best hospitality in the world. He was still caught completely off guard.
That is why this deserved a full conversation on the show, rather than just a few social posts.

The Full Review
What Does “ette” Even Mean?
You are on Route 192 – one of those roads that exists in every tourist corridor in America, lined with souvenir shops, discount ticket booths, chain restaurants, and budget hotels. It is not exactly where you expect to pull up and think this is going to be something extraordinary.
Then you see ette Hotel. The architecture is sophisticated, elegant, and thoughtful, and it does not look like anything else around it. Once you pull into the driveway, you are immediately encased in a kind of bubble – everything else falls away. The word Lou kept coming back to, over and over throughout the entire stay, was surprise.
Lou had not seen anything about the property before arriving – no research, no social posts, nothing. He sat in his car for a few minutes after first seeing the logo and looked the brand up for the first time. The name “ette” stands for Earthy, Timeless, True, and Elegant – and those four words are genuinely the guiding philosophy behind every single decision at this property, from the fragrance in the lobby to the room design to the restaurant menu to the elevators. It is not marketing copy. It is the operating manual.
This is also the only ette location currently on the planet.
The Michelin Key, Explained
As soon as Lou stepped outside, he noticed the property is a AAA Four Diamond hotel – and also saw the Michelin logo. The Michelin Key program is brand new, launched in the US in 2024. Think of it as the hotel equivalent of a Michelin star – same anonymous inspectors, same rigor, same prestige – just applied to where you sleep instead of where you eat.
Michelin judges hotels on five specific criteria: architecture and interior design, the quality and consistency of service, the overall personality and character, value for the price, and the hotel’s contribution to the destination and guest experience. Price is explicitly not the deciding factor.
One Key means a very special stay with high comfort and real personality. Two Keys is exceptional. Three Keys is the absolute pinnacle of hospitality on the planet. A Michelin Key has been awarded to less than 1% of hotels worldwide.
In Orlando specifically, ette Hotel is one of only three hotels in the entire city to ever earn a Michelin Key, alongside the Lake Nona Wave Hotel and the Ritz-Carlton Orlando Grande Lakes. And it was not a one-time win – ette earned the Key in 2024 and again in 2025, back to back, with a full reevaluation each year. Michelin’s own write-up noted that despite being minutes from the theme parks, walking through the door feels as urban and sophisticated as a boutique hotel in Miami or New York.
The Sensory Experience
The scent hits you the moment you walk through the portico and into the lobby – a fragrance created specifically for the property, subtle but present in the lobby, the common spaces, the rooms, and even the bath products. Lou kept coming back to the Eisner-ism of “everything speaks” – that every detail you see, smell, and touch matters. The whole space feels curated rather than simply furnished, with a European sensibility that comes directly from the hotel’s well-traveled founders and owners.
The Human Element
From the moment Lou walked in to check in, every employee he encountered smiled – not a performative smile, but a genuine one. Uniforms were immaculate. Interactions, whether between the bartender and a guest or housekeeping staff moving through the property, all carried the same level of care. This is the kind of culture that has to be cultivated from the top down.
Property Details Worth Knowing About
ette Hotel packs an unusual amount of personality into a 126-room property: a fully visible “laundry museum” where you can watch your towels and linens being folded while enjoying a signature pastry and espresso, an open kitchen at the restaurant, an elevated selfie wall in the hallway, a rotating art installation, fashion collaborations with Neiman Marcus and the Orlando Ballet, a book room, a curated perfume bar, and 4,000 square feet of event space – all inside a small, six-story, 126-room hotel. Guests who have also stayed at properties like the Four Seasons and the Ritz-Carlton have pointed out that ette is not trying to be a full resort – it is the ette hotel, not the ette resort – but the build quality and obsession with detail genuinely rivals hotels that cost twice as much.
The Room
Lou checked in late Wednesday afternoon, just hours before doing a live show from the hotel. The room carries the same understated, elegantly appointed, European feel as the rest of the property. Luxurious bedding, a cold room temperature exactly the way Lou likes it, dark hardwood floors, Le Labo bath amenities, a signature welcome box, an espresso machine, turndown service, and room service.
Room categories range from true queens and true kings through elegant rooms and full suites, including a dedicated wellness suite built specifically for recovery, with Peloton and Technogym equipment for guests who want fitness built into their stay.
Lou’s sixth floor room offered a view he was not prepared for – Spaceship Earth, the Swan and Dolphin, and the Tower of Terror, all visible from a hotel one mile from Walt Disney World. And yes, you can head up to the rooftop and watch fireworks at night.
Dinner at Salt and the Cellar
As impressive as the hotel itself was, dinner at Salt and the Cellar is what Lou is still thinking and talking about. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with an open kitchen and a menu designed by a chef who grew up in his father’s pastry shop in New York City, working at Chelsea Market before the Food Network put it on the map. He learned to roll croissants standing on milk crates because he could not reach the counter, and he has no formal culinary training – just a lifetime immersed in food and a belief that a meal should be an experience, not a transaction.
The signature dish – and the one Lou insists you order – is the tuna pizza. The crust is wafer-thin, just a delicate crisp base that holds everything together without competing with the topping, which is high quality, low-fat tuna with truffle oil. The crust is the vehicle. The tuna is the star.
There is also a full sushi bar, with signature rolls featuring torched salmon belly and tempura, and one roll that arrives with pop rocks. The duck – prepared Peking-style with a balsamic soy reduction – was excellent, not gamey at all. The short rib may have been the favorite entree of the night, and a lamb chop, prepared cleanly with no heavy sauces, won over a guest who admits lamb is not usually his thing.
For dessert, the Passion Fruit Mousse cigar arrives exactly as it sounds – a lit “cigar” resting on an ashtray, complete with a small pile of “ash.” The cigar itself is passion fruit mousse wrapped in dark chocolate and almond, and the ash is made from cocoa nibs. It is one of the most thoughtful and theatrical presentations Lou has seen at a dinner table.
Going Back Unannounced
In the interest of full transparency, of course the hosted visit with the chef went well. So Lou went back the very next night, by himself, completely unannounced, paying as a regular guest, partly because he needed the tuna pizza one more time, and partly to see if anything changed without the spotlight on. It did not. The tuna pizza was, once again, amazing.
Independent online reviews back this up – guests calling out specific spa staff by name, repeat visitors on their second or third stay describing the same level of service each time. That consistency is one of the five official Michelin Key criteria.
Spa, Pool, and the Little Extras
Lou did not make it to the spa or the pool personally, but there is plenty happening beyond the restaurant that makes the property feel more like a resort than a boutique hotel. The spa includes beautifully appointed treatment rooms, luxury products, and a Serenity Room with zero-gravity lounge chairs, hot tea, and light healthy snacks throughout the day. The pool is saltwater and chemical-free, one of only a few in the area. There is Sunday tea, yoga, and Pilates on an outdoor patio.
On the sixth floor, the rooftop fireworks viewing area offers freshly popped chef-made popcorn during the summer, with sightlines to Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Lou was the only person up there on his last night – a private, elevated experience, literally and figuratively.
Starting in mid-July, the hotel will also begin offering complimentary transportation to and from the Disney parks and Disney Springs in Lincoln SUVs.
Who Is This Hotel For?
ette Hotel is probably not for everybody, and that’s a strength, not a weakness. It is the right fit for couples on an anniversary trip, an adult-only getaway, food lovers, solo travelers who want to feel taken care of without fuss, locals looking for a true staycation, and out-of-state Disney fans who want to stay close to Walt Disney World while having somewhere genuinely different to decompress at night.
It is probably not the right fit for large families with young kids looking for a water slide, a character breakfast, and a bus to Magic Kingdom. ette Hotel knows exactly what it is.
Pricing
This is an elevated resort experience on par with something like a Four Seasons – but room rates run in the high $300s to low $400s per night, and they stay fairly consistent rather than spiking dramatically during festival weeks or peak seasons. There is no parking fee, no resort fee, and no Wi-Fi charge. The hotel also participates in Magical Dining, a low-commitment way to try Salt and the Cellar without committing to a full stay first.
Why This One Surprised Lou More Than Almost Any Hotel in Recent Memory
Lou has traveled extensively and stayed at every single hotel on Walt Disney World property. To have an experience this unexpected, this close to home, is rare. From the driveway to the lobby scent to the tuna pizza to watching EPCOT fireworks from a private rooftop deck, he genuinely forgot for stretches of time that he was sitting one mile from Walt Disney World.
If you are looking for a water slide, a character breakfast, and a Disney bubble experience, this is not it. But if you are looking for exceptional food, world-class hospitality, thoughtful design, and a small, quiet, elegant retreat that will reset you after a day in the parks, ette Hotel is absolutely worth a look.

I promised you a special announcement… and I wasn’t kidding. and this is one I am SO excited about this. So no fluff, no tease, no build up.
We are going back… to Alaska.
I’m talking about our next WDW Radio Group Cruise – seven nights aboard my absolute favorite ship, the Disney Wonder, sailing May 10th through the 17th, 2027, roundtrip from Vancouver, British Columbia (one of my favorite cities).
This is my favorite cruise itinerary in the world. Glaciers. Bald eagles. Humpback whales. The gold rush history of Skagway, the stunning capital city of Juneau, and the totem poles and fjords of Ketchikan, PLUS a glacier viewing day, and two days at sea – all wrapped in the magic that only the Disney Wonder can deliver.
And here’s what makes a WDW Radio group cruise different: it’s not just a cruise. It’s our cruise. It’s experiencing all of this – together, as a community and a family. That’s something you simply can’t recreate on your own.
The best part? Joining our group costs you nothing extra. You pay for your cruise – and everything that comes with sailing on the Disney Wonder – and you’re part of it.
And if you’ve sailed with us before, you already know – we always have a few surprises up our sleeves. There is so much that we experience and share together onboard, and everyone who joins us gets some exclusive surprises just for being part of our group. We’re talking contests, giveaways… and honestly, there’s more that I’m just not ready to share yet. You’ll have to trust me on that one.
But here’s what I need you to know: space is limited, and this ship will fill up fast. And the sooner you book, the lower your rate – prices only go up from here.
All bookings must go through our exclusive travel partner, Mouse Fan Travel. Head to WDWRadio.com/Alaska2027 right now for a free, no-obligation quote. It takes just a minute, and it could be the start of the adventure of a lifetime.
I’ll see you in Alaska.
