Epcot International Festival of the Arts Artist Profile – Fenway Fan

“Magic on Main Street,” Fenway Fan

As a traditional painter shapes a work with brushstrokes and paint, Fenway Fan creates works of art with cut paper. These colorful and whimsical paper collages are packed full of detail, layers, character, and something extra Fan may describe as “sparkle.”

“I’m a happy soul currently wandering and capturing every single sparkle moment in this world,” Fenway said. “My life is canvas, my mind is paint, my body is brush — I’m creating and living in my own art wonderland.”

Fan is the founder of IOO STUDIO and full-time multimedia artist hopping among fine art, entertainment, education, and toy industries with clients including Disney, Hasbro, Blizzard, and NBC Universal.

For this year’s Festival of the Arts, Fan introduced four new collage artworks – Magic in Epcot, Listen to your Soul, My Pretty, Pretty Hat – Orange Bird, and The Magic Tunnel.

“Each was inspired by a story of our beloved Disney characters and also my life within the past few years,” Fan explained. “For instance, Soul is my favorite movie during the pandemic which inspired me to live the moment and seek inward — listen to the soul and capture the sparks in my life which have already become my new motto! So I made this piece Listen to your Soul, which was inspired by the movie!”

Magic in Epcot features so many treasures for guests to explore within its landscape composition. A purple paint-dripping border frames Artist Mickey in the bottom left corner. Mickey holds a paint palette in one hand and in the other, he brushes a rainbow connecting across the collage to Epcot’s Spaceship Earth and Figment floating in his iconic lightbulb hot air balloon. Small odes to Epcot and Epcot’s World Showcase are dazzled throughout the piece, along with buckets of paint, flowers, and the monorail zooming along the bottom of the piece. This dynamic collage keeps viewers engaged and celebrates the wonder and whimsy of Epcot.

Fan’s inspiration is drawn from every aspect of her life, including music, culture, history, movies, stories, and “even dreams.”

Fan’s favorite Disney memories have also inspired her work. Fan said that watching the fireworks in front of the castle with her friends during her first trip to WDW many years ago is a treasured moment leading to the creation of Magic on Main Street.

“Although the original (Magic on Main Street) was sold as soon as it was hung, it’s still on the welcome page of my website and is one of my favorites because of the special memory behind it,” Fan said.

As a member of Disney’s WonderGround Gallery and returning Festival artist, Fan encourages young and aspiring artists to “[s]tay curious, step out of your comfort zone, and keep trying new things!”
