Many of you may recall that my husband and I are expecting our first baby. Unlike many expectant mothers, I have not experienced any extremely unusual cravings. I will, however, admit to having some strong yearnings for, what I consider to be, common food items and dishes. Topping the list, crispy French fries in all shapes, sizes, and served up plain, with ketchup on the side or topped with yummy things like cheese, chili, malt vinegar, etc. So, when the Disney Parks Blog reported on the newest menu items to reach the Magic Kingdom® Park, I definitely found my mouth watering.
Move over ketchup, the Golden Oak Outpost, situated at the bend linking Adventureland® and Frontierland®, is now offering four versions of topped waffle fries:
BLT Waffle Fries – This choice includes shredded lettuce, chopped tomatoes, bacon pieces and ranch dressing. For all of you who have long lamented the loss of Figaro Fries at Pinocchio’s Village Haus, it sounds like these are very similar.
Barbecue Pork Waffle Fries – With a mound of pulled pork slathered in barbecue sauce and topped with a heaping helping of coleslaw, it is hard to imagine there are waffle fries somewhere under there!
Brown Gravy and Cheese Waffle Fries – This offering is akin to traditional poutine—a dish that originated in Quebec, Canada—which is made by topping a pile of French fries with cheese curds and smothering the duo with chicken-based gravy. While Le Cellier in Epcot® offers gourmet versions of poutine, the dish available at Golden Oak Outpost, though it has brown gravy and white cheddar, is closer to the more simplistic original.
Tex-Mex Waffle Fries – Fitting right in with the menu offerings available at nearby quick service locations Pecos Bills Tall Tale Inn and Cafe and Tortuga Tavern, this selection tops waffle fries with a black bean-cucumber relish, warm cheddar cheese sauce, sour cream and sliced jalapeños.
Priced at $5.99 each, these piled high options certainly appear to be more than large enough to share. I think my first choice would be the BLT Waffle Fries, but I would be more than happy to try them all! What do you think? Are you excited about these new options at the Magic Kingdom® Park?
