Spoiler Support Group — July 2022 Preview

With Summer heating up, Disney+ is giving us a bit of time to cool down with its releases for the month of July, but Marvel Studios Thor: Love and Thunder plans to be hot, hot, hot! (Someone check on Beci.)

Featured this month we have nature, ingenuity, and a thunderous summer blockbuster sure to strike hard for all the Marvel fans out there. Let’s see what we’ve got!

Various Sharks (July 1)

Fans of National Geographic and Discovery Channel’s shark specials will be treated to several documentaries covering a wide range of the ocean alphas to enjoy. To quote Finding Nemo, “that’s gotta be 3,800 teeth!” But more teeth. So many more teeth.

America The Beautiful (July 4)

Michael B. Jordan narrates a nature documentary series covering North America from swamps to icecaps with breathtaking wildlife and diverse ecosystems; all capped with a strong message of preservation that will be moving to all, especially those who call Disney’s Animal Kingdom their favorite park.

The Wonderful Summer of Mickey Mouse (July 8)

As a fan of the art and humor of the reimagined Mickey and Friends Shorts, I am always thrilled for new content. From croissants, to potato land, to exploring the house of tomorrow (there is definitely someone who is so lost at home going, “what’s a potato land), if you know, you know. This summer celebration comes with Mickey Mouse, all his pals, and their shenanigans leading up to a fireworks spectacular! One story, many points of view, and plenty of laughs.

Light and Magic (July 27)

Have you ever wondered what goes into making such grand cinematic spectacles as Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Mission: Impossible, and Indiana Jones? With Light and Magic, viewers will get an in-depth look at the incredible work done at Industrial Light and Magic (ILM), the visual effects team founded by George Lucas. We will see the inspiring story of filmmakers and get a look behind the curtain on how it is all done! Just look up a list of what ILM has worked on and there is sure to be a film that made you stare at a big screen and go, “Wow.”

Thor: Love and Thunder (July 8)

The last original Avenger is back on the big screen and director Taika Waititi’s second installment of the Thor franchise promises to be the most eccentric, hilarious, and emotional entry yet. Here are some things to note for the film dropping July 8 in theaters.

  • The Asgardians of the Galaxy

As we saw at the end of Avengers: Endgame, Thor was going off with Starlord and the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy to embark on a new journey to find himself. The Guardians will accompany Thor for at least part of this film, and I know I’m excited to see more of the dynamic between Chris Pratt’s Peter Quill and Chris Hemsworth’s Thor Odinson.

  • King Valkyrie in New Asgard

Tessa Thompson returns as Valkyrie after getting the Kingship over New Asgard on Earth from Thor. She’s in charge of how Asgard moves forward, and with how strong willed she is, I certainly wouldn’t want to stand in her way. Recap her journey in Thor: Ragnarok and the final chapters of Avengers: Endgame to get pumped for where she will go next.

  • Jane Foster: The Mighty Thor

Also returning after a hiatus from the Marvel Cinematic Universe is Natalie Portman as astrophysicist Jane Foster, Thor’s old flame. And this time… she has Thor’s Hammer?! How? Why? We will find out. For source material of how the story could play out, and for some beautifully written and illustrated comic series, The Mighty Thor (2015).

  • Gorr the God Butcher

Needless to say, he is not a fan of Thor and his demigod friends. Christian Bale portrays the antagonist Gorr who is on a mission to eliminate all gods. Captivating villains can transform a good Marvel movie into a great one.

With all the ingredients for a top tier Marvel movie, it is time to get excited for the future of the Marvel Universe with lightning and hammers and toned Hemsworth muscles!

(Seriously, someone check on Beci.)

My name is Tyler and I live in Georgia with my wife, Ragan. I am a huge fan of the Disney parks after reigniting my childhood love of Disney on a trip in which I proposed! Since that 2017 trip, we have been back to our home away from home several times, and like many of you, we’re always in the pre-planning stage of a Disney vacation whether it happens or not. I have been a huge fan of Marvel and Star Wars my entire life on a very deep and highly invested level, and I hope my love and passion for these properties (as well as all Disney storytelling on and off the screen) comes through.
