Spoiler Support Preview August 2022 With a “Marvelous” Top-5 of Anticipation

–Tyler Johnson, WDW Radio Team

This month I am previewing 5 exciting additions to Disney+, and I recap 5 mind-blowing announcements from Marvel’s San Diego Comic-Con presentation. Hold on to your seats because this one gets crazy.

Lego Star Wars: Summer Vacation (August 5)

Lego Star Wars is probably the most popular brick-building intellectual property for Lego, between the toys, video games, and content on Disney+. Those who know and love the Lego comedic style are sure to have a blast. This time we get to see how the iconic characters from a galaxy far, far away handle sun, surf, and sand. Don’t tell Anakin.

Disney Sing-Alongs (August 5 & 19)

Several classic Disney films are getting their very own sing-along versions to occupy countless hours of time for children who are winding down their summer vacations. August 5 brings The Lion King and The Lion King 2: Simba’s Pride, while August 19 will add Beauty and the Beast (both animated and live action) and Tangled. Parents better start warming up those vocal chords to prepare to join in… or invest in some noise canceling headphones.

I am Groot (August 10)

Everyone’s favorite autonomous tree gets his very own series of shorts all about Baby Groot’s journey through childhood. Do you think there will be zany adventures full of shenanigans? To quote Star Lord, “I’m pretty sure the answer is, ‘I am Groot.’”

She-Hulk (August 17)

Marvel Studios’ first courtroom dramedy is my darkhorse pick for best MCU show to date! Will it have the grand spectacle and cosmic stakes of a Loki or a Moon Knight? Probably not. But I fully expect a well-balanced story with action-packed super hero adventures alongside stellar dialogue and comedic timing. Objection! Overruled!

Andor (August 31)

We were introduced to Captain Cassian Andor of the Rebel Alliance in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and now he is back to show us how he got to where he is when we first meet him. This prequel story features an ensemble cast of characters both old and new to dive into the mysterious espionage of the fledgeling Rebel Alliance after the rise of the Empire.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

We may need to petition the Oscars to create a new “Best Trailer” category, because the first Black Panther: Wakanda Forever trailer is a stroke of genius. I don’t even want to say anything else about this one; I’m gonna step back so you can see what I mean. This hits theaters November 11, 2022.

Daredevil: Born Again

“The man without fear” returns, this time on Disney+ with a confirmed 18 episodes premiering Spring 2024. Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio are back as Matt Murdock (Daredevil) and Wilson Fisk (The Kingpin). And with a tease of Daredevil in the Comic-Con She-Hulk trailer, I am expecting big things for the new Matt Murdock in the MCU.

Captain America is Back

Sam Wilson took on the mantle of Captain America in the 2021 Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Now Anthony Mackie gets a big screen debut in the stars and stripes. The Captain America story continues in Captain America: New World Order coming to the big screen May 3, 2024.

The Multiverse Saga

The Multiverse is here, and at the Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel President Kevin Feige shocked fans with a reveal of not only Phase 5 of the MCU, but also a peek at Phase 6! MCU Phase 5 currently has 11 confirmed projects between February 2023 and May 2024. Phase 6 will then kick off with the previously confirmed Fantastic 4 reboot. The timeline graphic displayed on screen during the presentation confirmed dates for 10 additional projects rounding out The Multiverse Saga, all culminating to a grand finale in November 2025.

The Avengers Return

Remember how I just said grand finale? How about two Avengers titles in the SAME YEAR! May 5, 2025 we get Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Fans of Loki may recognise Kang as “He Who Remains” from the season 1 finale. You can look more into Kang on the marvel.com character archive to find out what to expect with the version of Kang we are likely to get in the rest of The Multiverse Saga. And finally, Avengers: Secret Wars premiers November 7, 2025. I don’t think it’s an overstatement when I say to expect a cinematic spectacle that will rival even Avengers: Endgame. Enjoy this Marvel 101 lesson on Secret Wars to get a taste of what’s to come with this epic conclusion to The Multiverse Saga.
